Top-Ranked Rams Cruise Past Talladega to Begin Conference Play

No. 1 Mobile Holds Talladega Scoreless in 6-0 Victory

MOBILE, Ala. - The No. 1 University of Mobile Men's Soccer team played their first match at home since earning the top spot in the NAIA earlier in the week, hosting Talladega College on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 24. The match between the Rams and Tornadoes opened SSAC action for both teams and saw Mobile cruise to a 6-0 win. Mobile's win improves the overall record to 6-0-1, while moving to conference record to 1-0-0.

Rams Shut Down Dega

Freshman Jeb Scarbrough was awarded the start on Saturday and notched his first collegiate goal, scoring Mobile's first goal of the game in the sixth minute of the match. The heavily-favored Rams were expected to run away with things early against a winless Talladega team, but saw the match stay put at 1-0 through the first 36 minutes.

Finally in the 37th minute, Mobile pushed across an insurance goal off the foot of Lucas Ros to put Mobile up two goals to none. Ros' goal is his sixth on the year, which leads Mobile. Sebastian Jorgge was credited with the assist after great ball movement in the Talladega box.

Right before the halftime whistle, Mobile newcomer Guillermo Martinez scored his first goal as a Ram, coming in from off the bench late to score in the 44th minute. From there, the Rams took a 3-0 lead to the half.

In the second half, Joseph McMahon took the field for Mobile from off the bench and scored his first collegiate goal just 43 seconds into the half. McMahon slid near the Talladega goal to get the ball past to Tornado goalkeeper. Two minutes later, Guillermo Martinez tallied his second goal of the match to extend the lead, 5-0. Martinez transferred to Mobile this year and is from Cuernavaca, Mexico.

Later in the second half, Darlinton Aboagye scored his first goal of the season in his first appearance of the 2022 season. Aboagye's goal came in the 72nd minute and was the final goal the Rams scored in the 6-0 win over Talladega.

Mobile took 30 shots in the victory compared to Talladega's four shots. 19 of Mobile's 30 shots were recorded on goal as the Rams starting goalkeeper Archie Bean finished with three saves in the shutout win.

Mobile is 2-1 against Dalton State in the last three meetings.
