MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - After a sweep on Friday night over Middle Georgia State, the University of Mobile Volleyball team returned to action just 18 hours later with another conference road match on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 24. Mobile faced off with Brewton-Parker College on Saturday and dominated the Barons in three sets, 25-7, 25-11, 25-11. The sweep for Mobile is the 12th of the season in 13 victories, advancing the overall record to 13-5 and the conference record to 5-1.
Offense Cruises in Second-Straight Match
Coming off an impressive offensive match against Middle Georgia State on Friday night, the Mobile offense played well again on Saturday, managing a team hitting percentage of .274. Through 73 attack attempts, the Rams committed just 11 errors, all while tallying 31 kills in the victory.
Freshman Corrina Porch-Maxey had a stellar match against the Barons, leading the team with eight kills and recording a hitting percentage above .500 at .538. Jordan Wood followed Porch-Maxey with a .455 hitting percentage, tallying five kills. Wood continues to shine throughout the 2022 season, leading Mobile with a .380 hitting percentage through 18 matches.
In Mobile's 6-2 offense, Tatum Beech and Layton Adams led the Rams in assists once again, with Beech finishing with 13 assists and Adams recording 12. Libero Lexi Gillette was the only player in the match to record double-digit dig totals, finishing with 10 on the day.
With Mobile cruising in each set, head coach Jon Campbell saw opportunity to play several players from off his bench, playing a total of 19 players through the three-set victory. The Rams finished the weekend 2-0, with two convincing conference wins on the road against SSAC teams in Georgia.
Mobile Returns to the Pharr
Following a quick two-match road trip, the Rams are set to play their next three matches at home in Pharr Gymnasium, all against conference opponents. Mobile will host Talladega College on Friday, Sept. 30 for a 7:00 p.m. CT match and will follow that match with a Saturday afternoon bout with Life University, the conference's newest member, at 1:00 p.m. CT on Oct. 1.
