THE JUNGLE SOCCER COMPLEX | MOBILE, Ala. - In a showdown featuring two top teams in the NAIA Division, the University of Mobile Men's Soccer team came away victorious in front of the home faithful on Thursday night, Oct. 12, defeating Dalton State College (Ga.) in the SSAC Men's Soccer Game of the Week. Entering Thursday, Mobile ranks No. 11 in the latest NAIA Men's Soccer Top 25 Coaches' Ratings, with the Roadrunners of Dalton State traveling to Mobile, Ala. ranked No. 2 in the country with an undefeated record. However, Mobile handed Dalton State their first loss of the season on Thursday, while extending the current shutout streak to a program-best eight consecutive matches.
Mobile's overall record advances to 7-2-2 this season following the impressive victory as the Rams stay unbeaten in the SSAC with a 6-0-1 conference record.
Match Recap: Second-Ranked Rams Tops No. 2 Dalton State
In a high-energy match throughout the entire 90 minutes played, the match remained scoreless through the first 18 minutes. Fouls and yellow cards were common in Thursday's battle, with each team being called for at least 13 fouls and four yellow cards each in the match.
In the 19th minute, a foul by Dalton State committed inside the Mobile box eventually proved costly as it awarded the Rams a penalty shot. Senior Sebastian Jorgge stepped up to take the PK for Mobile and netted what eventually became to lone goal of the match. The goal for Jorgge is his first score of the 2023 season.
After a scoreless second half, the match became final with Mobile earning the win, 1-0. Dalton State only mustered six shots in the defeat, tallying three in each half. Half of the Roadrunners' shots were recorded on goal, but Mobile goalkeeper Ty Turner tallied three saves to preserve the shutout and improve to 7-2-2 this season in net. On Mobile's side, the Rams took eight shots with four being on target, led by Joaquin Rivera who notched three shots individually.
Following the win, the Rams ran to the stands to celebrate the win with numerous rowdy fans in attendance at the Jungle.
Another Big Match on the Horizon for RamFest
With a win over No. 2 Dalton State in the rearview mirror, Mobile has a quick turnaround in facing a talented Life University (Ga.) on Saturday, Oct. 14. Saturday's match is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. CT at the Jungle and is occurring after the first annual RamFest Tailgate at the Jungle.
