AUSTILL PHARR GYMNASIUM | MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Volleyball team eased their way to a straight-set win on Thursday night, Oct. 12, defeating conference foe Faulkner University (Ala.) in the process. The victory for the Rams extends the current win streak to four matches, with Mobile winning seven of the last nine matches played on the schedule. Additionally, Mobile's overall record improves to 14-6 this season and 7-3 in SSAC action.
Match Recap - Mobile Breezes Past Faulkner
In a match where it was all Mobile, offense was solid across the three sets played. In set one where the Rams won 25-16, Mobile tallied a .371 hitting line with a match-high 16 total kills in the set. The Rams followed that with a 25-11 set two win and a 25-12 set three victory. Across the final two sets played, Mobile tallied 23 kills and hit north of .300. Overall, the Rams finished Thursday's match with a .341 team hitting percentage, committing only 10 attack errors on 85 total attempts.
For Faulkner, the Eagles have seen better days as the visiting team recorded an attack percentage of .000 on the dot. In two of the three sets played, Faulkner hit in the negatives as a unit. Faulkner only mustered 17 total kills against the Mobile defense.
Individually, Corrina Porch-Maxey led all players with 11 kills, hitting .320 in the process. Porch-Maxey was followed by Kendel Lee Frazer who ended the night with eight total kills, while both Brinkley Hearn and Layton Adams tallied five a piece. Mobile newcomer Ciera Ross saw action for Mobile on Thursday, appearing in just her third match this season. Ross managed to record her first kill as a Ram in the win over Faulkner.
Junior Tatum Beech led the Rams in the assist category with 20, while the reigning SSAC Volleyball Setter of the Week Layton Adams tallied 11 assists. On the defensive side, Lexi Gillette notched a match-high 16 digs, while recording a team-high three service aces. Aleah Kennedy tallied two blocks on Thursday to put her just one block away from 300 in her collegiate career.
Mobile Takes on Dillard (La.)... Again
For the third time during the 2023 season, Mobile will square off with Dillard University in a non-conference matchup next on the schedule. Mobile's third and final meeting with the Bleu Devils is scheduled for next Tuesday, Oct. 17 in Pharr Gymnasium, with first serve being set for 7:00 p.m. CT. Following next Tuesday's match, the Rams are scheduled for just five regular season matches ahead of postseason play.
