Rams Defeat Dillard for Third Time During 2023 Campaign

H. AUSTILL PHARR GYMNASIUM | MOBILE, Ala. - In a match that lasted just over an hour long, the University of Mobile Volleyball team swept the Dillard University (La.) Bleu Devils on Tuesday night, Oct. 17, improving to 15-6 overall this season in the process. The non-conference matchup on Tuesday marks the third time this season that the two teams have faced one another, with Mobile coming away victorious in each match. Additionally, Mobile continues to stay unbeaten against the Bleu Devils throughout history, improving to 32-0-1 all time.

Match Recap: Mobile Wins Third Match Over Dillard; Aleah Kennedy Collects Career Block Number 300

The two non-conference foes opened Tuesday's match trading points throughout the first 20 rallies of the match. However, Mobile's attack picked up and proved to be too strong against the Dillard defenders as the Rams came away with a 25-21 set one victory. Mobile managed 16 kills on a .387 team hitting line across the first set, while allowing only 10 kills on Dillard's side.

In the second set, Dillard responded well following the set loss to open the match and led for the majority of set two. With the score 18-15 in favor of the Bleu Devils, Mobile put together a 4-0 run to give the Rams their first lead. Mobile's 4-0 run then turned into a 10-2 run as the Rams stormed back and ended set two with a 25-20 victory. Similar to the opening set of the match, Mobile hit north of .340 in the second set on Tuesday, finishing with 14 team kills on 29 attack attempts.

In the third set, it was all Mobile as the Rams cruised to a 25-13 set victory to earn the sweep and the team's third victory over Dillard this year. Mobile never trailed in the third set, tallying 12 kills on 41 attempts. Mobile concluded Tuesday's match with a .297 attack percentage and 42 total kills.

Corrina Porch-Maxey and Kendel Lee Frazer led all players offensively in the win, with Porch-Maxey collecting 10 kills and Frazer ending the night with nine kills on a .350 attack percentage. Jordan Wood followed Porch-Maxey and Frazer, recording seven kills on 12 attack attempts. Four players on Mobile's roster hit .250 or better with a minimun of 10 attempts. In the 6-2 offense, Layton Adams and Tatum Beech combined to tally 39 assists. Adams led all players with 20, putting her just 11 shy of 1,000 assists in her collegiate career.

Defensively, the story quickly fixated on senior Aleah Kennedy, who recorded her 300th-career block in the first set. Kennedy, a Mobile, Ala. native, is in her fourth and final season with the Rams and ended the night with the lone block and four kills. Lexi Gillette and Aspen Adams joined Kennedy in playing well defensively as Gillette led the team with 13 defensive digs, while Adams notched eight digs.
