HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The University of Mobile Women's Soccer team had a tough task on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 21, facing off with the top team in the NAIA in William Carey University (Miss.) on the road in a matchup featuring conference rivals. Mobile could not get anything going against the Crusaders, who eventually won the matchup 9-0 to remain unbeaten this season.
Four of William Carey's nine goals came in the first half, with the team finishing Saturday's matchup with a whopping 47 total shots. Meanwhile, Mobile only mustered five shots against the Crusaders, four being recorded on goal. Raegan Latiolais and Andi Hughes each recorded two shots to lead Mobile, while Juliana Gomez tallied seven saves in 65 minutes of work in net. Ebba Elweroth subbed Gomez out of the match halfway through the second half and finished with one save.
The loss for Mobile drops the overall record back to 6-6-4, while the SSAC record falls below .500 at 3-4-2 this season. Additionally, Mobile has lost three straight with just one regular season match left on the 2023 schedule.
The Rams' final regular season match is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 28 at the Jungle as Mobile hosts Faulkner University (Ala.) at 1:30 p.m. CT. Saturday's match is Senior Day for the UM Women's Soccer program.
