University of Mobile Outdoor Track & Field Program Hosts 2023 Mobile Invitational

UM Outdoor Track and Field Teams Hosts Home Meet Over the Weekend

MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field teams and head coach Andy Canegitta hosted the 2023 Mobile Invitational over the weekend on Apr. 8, with 10 different collegiate programs competing across both the men's and women's meets at the South Alabama Track and Field complex. In the women's meet, Mobile came home first overall with a score of 141 points, while the men's team at Mobile finished second overall with 148 points, just eight points shy of first-place team South Alabama. Across both meets, no new national qualifying marks were recorded by the Rams and no school records were broken.

In addition, Saturday was Senior Day for the UM Outdoor Track and Field program as 12 graduating seniors were honored and recognized by head coach Andy Canegitta and presented with a picture frame full of photos from over the seasons as Mobile Rams. 

Women's T&F Notables

In the women's meet, Mobile saw several Rams place first overall in various events throughout Saturday, with Anna Cabrera leading the way with two first-place finishes. Cabrera recorded a time of 15.81 seconds in the women's 100 meter hurdles event, placing first, while also taking home first in the women's long jump with a mark of 5.40 meters. Cabrera has also managed to qualify for NAIA Nationals in both events earlier this season.

Joining Cabrera with first-place finishes were Fedra Florentin and Raven Pratt. For Florentin, the sophomore earned first in the women's shot put, recording a qualifying mark of 13.04 meters. Florentin already managed to qualify in the shot put event earlier this season. For Pratt, the Mobile newcomer tallied a time of 1:08.17 in the women's 400 meter hurdles, earning her first overall.

Men's T&F Notables

On the men's side, Devin Christopher highlighted the day by taking home first in both the men's 100 and 200 meter events. The senior recorded a time of 11.03 seconds in the 100 meters, while recording a time of 21.60 seconds in the 200 meters. Earlier this season, Christopher qualified in the 200 meters event.

Freshman Joey Jones found also success on Saturday, placing first in the men's 1,500 meters event. Jones took home first with a time of 4:05.64, while Jacob Harned tallied a time of 33:57.09 in the men's 10,000 meters, earning him a first-place finish. Wes Egalite wrapped up the track events by placing first in the men's 110 meter hurdles event with a time of 15.22 seconds.

SSAC Championships Upcoming

Both teams at Mobile will take a couple of weeks off before the next meet on the 2023 schedule, being the SSAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday and Saturday, Apr. 21-22 in Mobile, Ala. 

The UM Women's Outdoor Track and Field team will look to make it three-straight conference championships in a couple of weekends, winning the last two. 


Mobile Qualifiers for NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships (To Date)

The 2023 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships will be held at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marian, Ind., with the University of Mobile Outdoor Track and Field teams seeing 12 Rams so far to qualify. Those qualifiers with their event(s) are listed below.
