Rams Dominate Crosstown Rival Spring Hill College Behind 14-Run Inning

Mobile Comes Away with Blowout Win Over Spring Hill on Tuesday Night

SPRING HILL COLLEGE, MOBILE, Ala. - Crosstown rivals met for the first and only time during the 2023 season on Tuesday night, Apr. 11 as the University of Mobile Baseball team traveled to Spring Hill College for a non-divisional game against the Spring Hill Badgers. After Spring Hill worked an early two-run lead in the middle innings, Mobile's offense exploded with a 14-run inning to eventually put the game away and come home victorious, 18-4. 

The win on Tuesday for the Rams snaps a small two-game losing skid against the Badgers and advances the 2023 overall record to 28-6 this season. 

Mobile Bats Catch Fire Against the Badgers

Spring Hill opened the scoring on Tuesday with two early runs in the bottom of the second inning. Mobile managed to answer with a lone run in the top of the third following a solo home run by Tucker Musgrove, but Spring Hill got that run back in the next half inning. The two teams traded runs over the next inning as the Badgers managed a 4-2 lead going into the middle portion of the game. In the top of the fifth, Mobile's Samuel Plash cut the Spring Hill lead to just one run following an RBI groundout to make it a 4-3 ballgame. One inning later, Mobile's offense sparked and caught fire in the top of the sixth.

In the sixth, the Rams scored a whopping 14 runs in the inning alone to blow the game wide open. Mobile tallied 11 hits in the inning, with three being extra-base hits and three Rams working walks. Trevor Wells unloaded the bases with a double in the sixth, while both Plash and Trevor Andrews notched two RBIs each off two hits each. From there, Spring Hill had no answers as Mobile added an add-on run one inning later. Mobile eventually came away with the win, 18-4.

Trevor Wells finished 2-for-2 at the plate with his three RBIs, adding an outstanding four walks in the game. He scored three runs. Samuel Plash also notched three RBIs in the dominating win, finishing 2-for-6 at the dish. Tucker Musgrove, Trevor Andrews, Landon Moore, and pinch-hitter Breyton Cornelius all recorded two RBIs each on Tuesday. Overall, 14 Rams recorded an at-bat against the Badgers, with 10 recording at least one hit. Mobile outhit Spring Hill, 18-9.

On the mound, Mobile Head Coach Jon Seymour sent nine different pitchers to the rubber against Spring Hill, with all nine combining to strike out five total batters and issuing five walks. Jaden Brown was awarded the win after a scoreless fifth inning. 


Conference Rivals Set to Meet

After Mobile took care of business against area rival Spring Hill on Tuesday night, the Rams are set to meet conference rival William Carey for the first time this season this upcoming weekend. Mobile will travel to Hattiesburg, Miss. on Friday and Saturday, Apr. 14-15, battling the Crusaders in the three-game series. 

The Rams enter this weekend ranked No. 7 in the latest NAIA Baseball Top 25 Coaches' Poll, while William Carey ranks No. 16. Friday's doubleheader is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. CT, with the series finale being scheduled for Saturday at 1:00 p.m. CT.
