GREENVILLE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Men's Golf team, led by head coach TJ Jackson, concluded the 2022-23 season on Wednesday, Apr. 19, competing in the SSAC Men's Golf Championship Tournament and coming home fifth overall. Across the three-day tournament that featured seven SSAC teams, Mobile tallied a third-place finish following the first round on Monday, Apr. 17, but fell two spots on day two following second round action. The championship tournament was held at Robert Trent Jones' Cambrian Ridge Golf Course in Greenville, Ala.
In addition to the tournament, the SSAC announced the year-end awards for men's golf following, with two Rams being selected to the SSAC Men's Golf All-Freshman Team. Teagan Miller and Aidan Farmer earned all-freshman selections after their first seasons as a Ram, with Mobile being the only SSAC program to see multiple featured on the team. Out of 38 entrants in this year's conference tournament, Farmer placed 26th overall in his first postseason appearance with a total score of 240 (+24). Miller did not compete due to injury.
Mobile's highest finisher in this week's championship tournament was senior Ben Bryant. Bryant finished just outside the top 10 with a 16th overall placement, tying with another competitor after dropping six spots on the final day. He recorded a total score of 229 (+13) after beginning the tournament with a 71 (-1). Bryant was followed by Gonzalo Godoy who notched a season-best performance this week. Godoy placed tied for 21st overall with a 232 (+16), with his best round being a 75 (+3) in round one.
Cy Smith, Aidan Farmer, and Lane McLaughlin also rounded out Mobile's team performance in Greenville, finishing within three strokes of each other from 25th through 27th. Smith notched a 239 (+23), while McLaughlin scored a 242 (+26). McLaughlin was later selected as Mobile's representative on the SSAC Men's Golf Champions of Character Team for displaying the best sportsmanship on and off the course throughout the season.
As a team, the Rams tallied a 932 (+68) in this year's conference tournament, with round one being the best round as Mobile scored a 301. The second round hurt Mobile in the end after finishing 22 strokes worst following the first round. In round three, Mobile scored a 308. Dalton State College eventually won this year's conference title, scoring a 853 (-11).
The University of Mobile Men's Golf program saw five members named to the SSAC's Barnes & Noble College All-Academic Team for excelling in the classroom during the 2022-23 academic year. Those selected can be found below.
