Rams Come Away with Four-Set Victory in New Orleans

Mobile Defeats Dillard for Second Time This Season on Tuesday

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The University of Mobile Volleyball team traveled to New Orleans, La. on Tuesday evening, Sept. 12 and managed a four-set win over Dillard University (La.), defeating the Bleu Devils in non-conference play for the second time during the 2023 season. Despite quick starts from Dillard across the first three sets, the Rams worked themselves back into each set, eventually tallying scores of 25-22, 27-29, 25-20, 25-18 for the win. Dillard's lone set win came during extra play in set two, which saw Mobile come back late from a five-point deficit. However, the Rams' late comeback fell short.

Overall, Mobile improves to 8-4 on the season following the win as the team returns to conference play this upcoming weekend. In addition, head coach Jon Campbell is set to make history this weekend with his 600th-career win in the NAIA.

Match Recap: Good Teams Find Ways to Win

It was not the cleanest of nights for UM Volleyball in New Orleans on Tuesday, as Dillard came out strong in each of the first three sets played. The Bleu Devils managed an 8-1 run to open the match, following that with 6-1 and 5-1 runs across sets two and three. Playing from behind for much of the match, the Rams of Mobile found ways to keep each set competitive and eventually scored a 3-1 win.

On 127 attack attempts, Mobile committed 25 attack errors, while recording 48 kills as a team. The hitting percentage sat at .181 at night's end, with just two members of the Mobile roster securing more than six kills. Fortunately for the Rams, Dillard also struggled with consistent offense, hitting just .115 as a unit. Despite the struggles for much of the match, Mobile managed two wins across the first three sets, all while cruising in set four.

In the fourth set, Mobile hit .355 as a team and tallied 14 kills and only three errors, solidifying a positive end to the match. On the individual side, Corrina Porch-Maxey shined and continued her hot stretch for Mobile as the reigning SSAC Volleyball Attacker of the Week led all players with 16 kills and a .393 hitting percentage. Across her last three matches played, Porch-Maxey has notched 45 total kills during the Rams' 2-1 stretch.

Kendel Lee Frazer and Aleah Kennedy also had respectable nights offensively, with Frazer tallying 12 kills and Kennedy coming away with six kills on a .600 hitting percentage. In Mobile's 6-2 offense, Layton Adams led Mobile with 23 assists, while Tatum Beech finished with 18. Libero Lexi Gillette eventually led the Rams' back line with a match-high 20 digs in the win.

Back Home on Saturday; Head Coach Jon Campbell Looks to Make History

After the non-conference win on Tuesday against Dillard, head coach Jon Campbell's all-time win total advanced to 599 in his career. Campbell will look to earn his 600th-career win in a favorable conference match at home against Stillman College (Ala.) this Saturday, Sept. 16 at 1:00 p.m. CT.
