Eight-Game Win Streak Snapped by William Carey on Wednesday

UM Women's Basketball Drops Third Game of Season

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The University of Mobile Women's Basketball team saw an eight-game winning streak come to an end on Wednesday, Jan. 17, with the Rams falling 63-48 to William Carey University (Miss.) in Hattiesburg. Wednesday's game was originally scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 16, but a Winter Weather Advisory for the southeastern part of the United States forced the game to be pushed back 24 hours.

The loss for Mobile is just the third defeat during the 2023-24 campaign, with Mobile and William Carey splitting the regular season series. The Rams handed the Crusaders their first loss of the year back on Nov. 28. On Wednesday, Mobile led for only a couple of minutes in the first quarter, but saw William Carey manage to hold the lead throughout the rest of the contest. Mobile falls to 16-3 overall this year, with the SSAC record dropping to 8-2.

The Basics

Mobile shot just 32% in Wednesday's game against conference rival William Carey, making only six total shots from the floor throughout the first half. At the end of the half, William Carey put together a 26-6 run over the final 17 minutes of the first, with Mobile finishing 1-for-15 from the floor. The Rams finished just 1-for-11 in the second quarter.

In the second half, Mobile shot the ball much better, but the deficit proved to be too much as William Carey earned the 15-point win. The Rams finished with 15 made shots from the floor, while ending the night 10-for-23 from the free throw line. Alanna Donaldson led the scoring for Mobile, finishing the game with 17 points and a pair of steals. Braylee McMath followed with nine points and five rebounds, while both Miya Kimber and MacKenzie White scored six points each. Erica Jones, Mobile's leading scorer this season, was inactive for Wednesday's game against William Carey.

For the Crusaders, the home team dominated the rebound battle with 55 boards compared to Mobile's 29 rebounds. William Carey scored 22 points off second chance opportunities, adding 18 more points in the paint. For the Rams, Mobile only scored 14 points in the paint.

Back Home for a Rebound

Mobile will look to bounce back from the loss on Wednesday before the next game on the schedule, coming on Saturday, Jan. 20 against Point University (Ga.). Saturday's game will be played in Pharr Gymnasium and is scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m. CT.

Point managed a 61-51 win over Mobile earlier this season in West Point, Ga.
