Mobile Stays Unbeaten at Home with Victory Over Point on Saturday

Rams Get Revenge on Point with 13-Point Win in Pharr Gymnasium

H. AUSTILL PHARR GYMNASIUM | MOBILE, Ala. - After Point University (Ga.) handed the University of Mobile Women's Basketball team their first conference loss of the season back on Dec. 2, the Rams found revenge over the Skyhawks on Saturday, Jan. 20 with a 67-54 win inside Pharr Gymnasium. The victory is Mobile's ninth win in the last 10 games played, improving the overall record to 17-3 on the year. Additionally, Mobile continues to sit in second place in the current SSAC Women's Basketball standings with a 9-2 conference record following Saturday's action and improves to 9-0 on the year on their home floor.

How It Happened

Mobile and Point battled to an evenly-played first half on Saturday afternoon, with Mobile leading 34-33 at halftime. However, the Rams trailed Point for the majority of the first half, but relied on a late 6-1 run to take a one-point lead before the break. Mobile made 15 total shots from the floor throughout the first half, while Point tallied 14 successful shots. For the Skyhawks, turnovers haunted Point as Mobile forced13 total giveaways through the first 20 minutes.

In the second half, Mobile opened the third quarter with an 8-2 run to extend the lead, eventually outscoring Point 17-11 in the quarter. Point turned the ball over eight times in the third quarter, leading to more offensive opportunities for the Rams. In the fourth and final quarter of the game, Mobile put the game away with 16 more points through the final 10 minutes, holding the Skyhawks to just 10 points. From there, the Rams went on to win by 13 points.

Point finished Saturday's contest with a staggering 27 turnovers, with Mobile totaling 32 points off giveaways. The Rams finished with 17 team steals in the win, one shy of matching a season-high. Alanna Donaldson led Mobile with five.

Box Score Highlights

To go along with her game-high five steals, Alanna Donaldson led Mobile in scoring with 18 points, shooting 8-for-14 from the floor. She added four rebounds and three assists. MacKenzie White followed Donaldson with 10 points, tallying three steals, and freshman Rayven Obillo finished with nine points, all coming in the second half. In her first start of the season, Verd Fontaine led Mobile with 10 rebounds, adding four points and two steals.

As a team, Mobile finished Saturday's victory with a 41% shooting percentage, making seven of 10 free throw attempts. Mobile relied on 19 points from off the bench and scored 30 points in the paint. After being inactive in Mobile's loss this past Thursday to William Carey, Erica Jones returned to the court in a limited role on Saturday, finishing with two points in two minutes of work.

Point shot the ball better than Mobile with a 47% shooting line, while out-rebounding the Rams, 34-32. However, despite the better offensive numbers, Mobile made Point pay in the end following the 27 turnovers.
