THE JUNGLE | MOBILE, AL – In a competitive showdown for the SSAC regular season title, the University of Mobile men's soccer team secured a 2-1 victory over William Carey, cheered on by an enthusiastic home crowd at The Jungle. Both teams entered with strong standings, intensifying the stakes and competitive atmosphere on the field.
Mobile initiated the scoring in the 21st minute when Joseph McMahon seized an opportunity, scoring the opening goal to give the Rams an early lead. The Rams continued their momentum, and in the opening minute of the second half, Emilio Cazares extended the lead to 2-0, putting Mobile in a commanding position.
William Carey fought back, creating multiple scoring opportunities and finally netting a goal in the 81st minute via a penalty by Caoimhin McConnell. Despite William Carey's late-game push to equalize, Mobile's defense and goalkeeper Ty Turner, who recorded two crucial saves, held firm until the final whistle.
The game was physical, with both teams accumulating yellow cards in a match that saw a combined 32 fouls. Ultimately, Mobile's focus and resilience secured the win and the regular season championship. As the Rams celebrate this victory, they turn their attention to the upcoming SSAC tournament, where they will look to sustain their momentum.
This marks Mobile's seventh SSAC Regular Season Championship under head coach Daniel Whelan, now in his 11th year.
