Volleyball Ends Pool Play with Three Sweeps; Advances to Semifinals of SSAC Volleyball Championship Tournament

Top-Seeded Rams Rolling at Conference Tournament

MULTIPLEX AT CRAMTON BOWL | MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Pool play has concluded at the 2024 SSAC Volleyball Championship Tournament, with the University of Mobile Volleyball team cruising to three consecutive sweeps in the process. The three wins propels the top seed of Mobile to the tournament semifinals, set for 5:30 p.m. CT on Nov. 15.

Additionally, the three wins advances Mobile's overall record on the season to an impressive 29-4.

Pool Play Summary

On day one (Nov. 14) of this year's conference tournament in downtown Montgomery, Ala., Mobile swept Point University (Ga.) 25-14, 25-20, 25-19 behind a strong .345 team attack percentage to begin postseason action, led by Corrina Porch-Maxey with 13 kills and Aspen Adams with 10. Tatum Beech recorded a match-high 24 assists, while Jaci Drinnon led the defense with 17 digs. The Rams came away with 11 blocks as a unit against the Skyhawks, seven from Porch-Maxey.

Later that same day, Mobile battled Loyola (La.) and managed a hard-fought sweep over the Wolf Pack, 25-23, 25-19, 25-21. Both teams struggled with consistent offenses, hitting below .140 in the match. Aspen Adams paced the team with nine kills, followed by SSAC Volleyball Player of the Year Dazsha Dean Middleton with eight kills on just 15 attempts. Layton Adams managed 15 assists, with Beech right behind with 14. Drinnon again led Mobile with 17 digs, followed by Beech with 11. 

The Rams concluded pool play the following day (Nov. 15), sweeping UT-Southern (Tenn.) in dominating fashion. Mobile won 25-11, 25-9, 25-15 over the Firehawks, collecting 48 team kills off a stellar .430 hitting line. Aspen Adams again led the Rams with 10 kills in the win, with Corrina Porch-Maxey collecting eight. Mobile's two middle blockers of Dazsha Dean Middleton and Emily Osborne each recorded seven kills. Meanwhile, Layton Adams racked up 24 assists, adding nine digs and three service aces. Jaci Drinnon collected a team-high 15 digs, followed by Aspen Adams with 11. 

Semifinals Ahead

Mobile will await results from other pool play action to see who the Rams will match up against in the semis, scheduled for 5:30 p.m. CT on Friday. All matches are broadcasted live on SSAC Sports TV.
