MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The University of Mobile's Men's Soccer team advanced to the championship final of the 2024 SSAC Men's Soccer Championship Tournament on Thursday, Nov. 7, cruising to a 4-0 victory over UT-Southern (Tenn.) in the semifinals of the tournament. The semifinal match, held in Montgomery, Ala., saw Mobile's offensive and defensive units perform in perfect harmony, securing a strong path to the finals for the second-straight season. Mobile improves the overall record to 16-2-1 on the season following the win.
Match Summary
Mobile struck first in the 30th minute of the match by SSAC Men's Soccer Player and Newcomer of the Year Emilio Cazares, giving him 22 goals scored on the season and 10 in the last six matches played. Cazares' goal was assisted by Joaquin Rivera and was eventually the only goal of the first half for either side. In the second half, Joseph McMahon extended the lead for the Rams, scoring on a penalty kick just 46 seconds into the period. McMahon then followed up with another goal in the 51st minute, assisted by Louis Dolcini, making it 3-0 Mobile.
Louis Dolcini then found himself scoring in Thursday's semifinal, tallying the Rams' fourth goal in the 57th minute, with Noah Miller on the assist. From there, Mobile sealed the victory at 4-0 over UT-Southern, outshooting the Firehawks 16-8 across the full 90 minutes.
The Rams displayed a balanced attack with their 16 total shots, half of which were on target. Defensively, starting goalkeeper Ty Turner made three key saves, helping Mobile maintain a clean sheet against UT-Southern's eight shots. The strong performance and disciplined defense propels Mobile to the conference finals where the Rams will look to defend their title.
SSAC Men's Soccer Championship Set for Saturday
Mobile will await the winner of the Dalton State (Ga.) v. William Carey (Miss.) match on Thursday night to prepare for the 2024 SSAC Men's Soccer Championship, scheduled for 7:00 p.m. CT on Saturday night, Nov. 9 in Montgomery, Ala. Mobile is 0-1 against Dalton State this season, while defeating William Carey to clinch the top seed and regular season championship just two weeks ago. Saturday's championship match will be aired live on SSAC.TV.
