OAKVILLE, Ala. - The University of Mobile's Women's Cross Country team finished fifth at the 2024 SSAC Women's Cross Country Championship on Friday, Nov. 8, with the postseason 6k being held at Oakville Indian Mounds Park in north Alabama. The Rams scored 113 points with a combined time of 2:05:36.12 in the top-five finish, averaging 25:07.23 per runner for the conference championship.
SSAC Championship Results & Awards
Notable performances included Kayley Burgess, who finished 15th overall with a time of 24:24.26 to lead Mobile on Friday, followed closely by Claire Atkins in 18th at 24:40.59. Other key contributors were Kaylea Holmes (23rd, 25:18.30), Haley Jones (28th, 25:35.65), and Trinity Page (29th, 25:37.32). Their collective effort placed the team among the top five, just behind Blue Mountain (Miss.) and ahead of Loyola-New Orleans? (La.). William Carey (Miss.) eventually won the conference championship with 45 points.
Following the race, Kayley Burgess was named to the 2024 SSAC Women's Cross Country All-Conference Team after her top-15 performance, while Claire Atkins, Haley Jones, Reese Prestridge, Sidney Gipe, and Kaylea Holmes joined Burgess as SSAC Women's Cross Country All-Academic student-athletes for surpassing the required GPA in the classroom during the year. Haley Jones was later named as Mobile's representative on the SSAC Women's Soccer Champions of Character Team for displaying the best sportsmanship and leadership throughout the season.
