BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. - The University of Mobile's Men's Basketball team emerged victorious against Blue Mountain Christian (Miss.) on Thursday evening, Dec. 5, securing a 62-54 win in a tightly contested game in northeast Mississippi.
The Rams, ranked No. 18 in the NAIA and now currently boasting a record of 8-2 overall and 3-0 in conference play, used a strong second-half performance to secure the win over the Toppers.
Thursday Highlights
The first half was a competitive battle against the conference foes, with Mobile holding a slim 24-22 advantage at halftime. Mobile shot just 36% in the first half, while Blue Mountain recorded a 33% shooting line through the first 20 minutes.
The Rams came out stronger in the second half, outscoring Blue Mountain 38-32 and shooting 60% from the field with 14 made shots to notch the eight-point win. Overall, Mobile finished shooting 47.9% and collected 34 rebounds and 11 assists. The Toppers shot 41.1% and tallied 31 rebounds and 10 assists.
Mobile newcomer BJ Comer led the way for Mobile with a season-best 16 points from off the bench, including a solid 8-for-9 performance at the free-throw line. He also contributed seven rebounds and a block. Trent Moye followed Comer with 15 points, highlighted by two three-pointers and three steals.
Ezra McKenna finished just one point shy of his ninth double-double in 10 games this season, ending his night with nine points and 10 rebounds. Adarius Oliver and Zion Hunter also contributed with nine and seven points, respectively, with Hunter also making an impact defensively with four blocks. The Rams demonstrated their depth, with 25 points coming off the bench, a stark contrast to the Toppers' eight.
Defensively, the Rams dominated with nine blocks and forced 18 turnovers, converting them into 15 points. The effort in the paint was significant, outscoring Blue Mountain Christian 34-32 in close-range opportunities.
SSAC Road Trip Continues
The Rams will aim to maintain their momentum as they continue conference play on Saturday, Dec. 7, traveling to Pulaski, Tenn. for a conference matchup against UT-Southern (Tenn.). Saturday's game is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. CT as Mobile looks to remain unbeaten in the SSAC.
