University of Mobile Bowling Teams Conclude Season at SSAC Championships

Rams Eliminated in Quarterfinals Across Conference Men's and Women's Bowling Championships

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The University of Mobile Men's and Women's Bowling teams wrapped up the 2023-24 season on Saturday, Feb. 24, competing in the quarterfinals of the SSAC Bowling Championship Tournaments in Savannah, Ga. Both teams at Mobile played a total of two matches against conference opponents, starting on Friday, Feb. 23 where the Rams knocked off Blue Mountain Christian (Miss.). Eventually, Mobile suffered quarterfinal defeats on Saturday and saw the season come to an end in the double-elimination tournament.

Women's Bowling Recap / Results

The women's team at Mobile faced a total of four teams in the program's first-ever conference championship tournament, winning against Blue Mountain on Friday and later falling to the losers' bracket after a Friday afternoon loss to SCAD-Savannah (Ga.). On Saturday, Mobile opened the day with a win over Stillman College (Ala.) to advance to the quarterfinals, but later fell to SCAD-Atlanta (Ga.) to face elimination. Mobile entered as the No. 4 seed of the tournament.

Match 1 (Friday) | #4 Mobile 2, #5 Blue Mountain 0
  • The Rams won the team game 638 – 561, with Kelsey Hicks bowling a 160 to lead the way.
  • Mobile won 486-404 in the four baker games.
Match 2 (Friday) | #1 SCAD-Savannah 2, #4 Mobile 0
  • The Bees won the team game 1,023 – 731 thanks to a score of 247 from Holly Harris.
  • SCAD Savannah later won the baker games, 869-532.
Match 3 (Saturday) | #4 Mobile 4, #6 Stillman 0
  • The Rams won all four baker games played.
  • Mobile's highest score consisted of a 136.
Match 4 (Saturday) | #3 SCAD-Atlanta 4, Mobile 0
  • SCAD-Atlanta swept the baker games, with a high of 216.

SCAD-Savannah went on to win the 2023-24 SSAC Women's Bowling Championship Tournament, defeating two-seeded Milligan in the process.

Men's Bowling Recap / Results

On the men's side, Mobile opened the tournament with an upset over a higher-seeded team in Blue Mountain, later falling to SCAD-Savannah. Both matches were played on Friday. During Saturday's action, the Rams shut down the Tigers of Stillman, while seeing the season end in a loss to Milligan University (Tenn).

  • The Rams won the team game 971-756, with Luke Owers leading the charge by bowling a 267.
  • In the four baker games, the Rams won 688-592.
  • Mobile's upset over a higher seed was the lone of the tournament in the first round.
Match 2 | #1 SCAD-Savannah 2, #5 Mobile 0
  • In the team game, the Bees won 1,012-861 thanks to a 243 from Julian Salinas.
  • In the baker games, SCAD Savannah won, 892-568.
Match 3 | #5 Mobile 4, #6 Stillman 0
  • Mobile swept the Tigers in the Baker Games.
  • The Rams capped the baker games with a high score of 241.
Match 4 | #2 Milligan 4, #5 Mobile 1
  • Milligan posted high scores of 188 and 183 in the baker games, eliminating the Rams from competition.

SCAD-Savannah went on the defeat SCAD-Atlanta in the finals of the SSAC Men's Bowling Championship Tournament.

Tournament Format

Winners' Bracket: Consists of mini mega matches: 1 traditional team game followed by 4 baker games total (2 on first lane, 2 on opposite lane). If overall score is 1-1, a best of 5 baker match will be played.

Losers' Bracket: Best of 7 baker match play.
