UM Bowling Teams Compete in Pair of Tournaments at NAIA Southeast Open Over the Weekend

Rams Wrap Up Regular Season Play at NAIA Southeast Open; Set for Conference Championship

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Coming off the first-ever victories in program history just a couple of weeks back, the University of Mobile Men's and Women's Bowling teams returned to action at the NAIA Southeast Open on Feb. 3-4, competing in two separate tournaments across Saturday and Sunday in Lawrenceville, Ga. Each tournament across the men's and women's tourneys saw at least 10 collegiate teams from various divisions from across the southeastern United States compete as Mobile notched finishes just outside the top 10 on each day.

The NAIA Southeast Open concludes the regular season portion of the 2023-24 schedule for the UM Bowling teams as the Rams look ahead to the 2023-24 SSAC Bowling Championship Tournaments.

Weekend Recap

For the UM Women's Bowling team, the Rams placed 11th overall out of 11 competing teams on Saturday, following that with a 10th-place finish on Sunday. In Saturday's tournament, Mobile scored a 4,354, led by Kelsey Hicks who averaged 161 pins across three games played. Hicks knocked down a total of 483 pins, placing 44th overall individually. She was followed by 54th-place finisher Kaelyn Tolley, who scored a 418, averaging over 139 pins per game. 

In Sunday's results, Mobile finished with a team score of 4,234. Hicks once again paced Mobile across three games bowled, this time finishing 33rd overall with a score of 500 on the dot. She averaged 166.67 pins per game on Sunday. Second-year Ram Raven London followed Hicks with a 48th-place finish, averaging over 119 pins for a score of 359.

On the men's side, the UM Men's Bowling team managed a pair of 12th-place finishes in both tournaments. Mobile scored a 6,242 on Saturday, bowling three total games. Bryant Story became Mobile's highest finisher to open the weekend as the sophomore averaged over 213 pins per game, while placing 22nd overall individually. Samuel Dippel was Mobile's next finisher, placing 49th with a 568. 

On Sunday, the Rams scored a 5,462 as a team in three games bowled, this time led by Luke Owers in 38th place. Owers bowled a 551 and averaged over 183 pins. Nicholas Pierce finished just two spots behind Owers in 40th overall with a 546, and Brandon Bufalini placed 46th with a 532. Logan Broussard, the SSAC Men's Bowler of the Week two weeks ago, scored a 528 and averaged 176 pins per game to finish in 47th overall.

On to the SSAC Championships

With the regular season officially in the rear-view mirror, the University of Mobile Men's and Women's Bowling teams are set to travel to Savannah, Ga. for the 2023-24 SSAC Bowling Championship Tournaments, scheduled for Friday and Saturday, Feb. 23-24.
