HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The University of Mobile Men's and Women's Tennis teams each saw winning streaks come to an end on Thursday evening, Mar. 28, with the Rams falling to conference rival William Carey (Miss.) in Hattiesburg, Miss.
For the UM Women's Tennis team, the newly-ranked No. 25 team in the NAIA saw a respectful seven-match winning streak conclude following a 7-0 loss to No. 8 William Carey on Thursday, dropping the overall record to 12-4 on the season and 2-3 in the SSAC. Meanwhile, the 14th-ranked men's team at Mobile saw a historic start to the 2024 campaign come to and end, with the Rams suffering the first loss of the season following a 6-1 result at the hands of the seventh-ranked Crusaders. In the women's match, the Rams struggled to get anything going against their conference rival, with William Carey earning wins across all three doubles matches to begin the afternoon. In singles play, Mobile's top seed of Karolina Mrowiecova became the only Ram to force three sets, but eventually fell 6-4, 4-6, 10-5. Caroline Johnson kept the score close from the fifth-seeded singles match, but suffered a 7-5, 6-2 defeat.
On the men's side, Mobile's top-seeded doubles pair of Joao Pedro Okano and Alex Verdu came up with a 7-6 win to open the afternoon. However, William Carey saw wins across the second and third flights of doubles play, scoring the doubles point to open the match. Across singles action, Mobile's lone point on the final score came from the top flight in the lineup, with Joao Pedro Okano remaining unbeaten on the season following a 6-2, 6-2 victory. William Carey managed two-set wins in each of the remaining five singles matches.
