PENSACOLA, Fla. - The University of Mobile Men's and Women's Cross Country teams earned third-place finishes at the annual Argonaut Invitational over the weekend, competing on the University of West Florida's campus on the morning of Sept. 20. The men's race was a scheduled 8k with nine teams competing, while the women's race saw eight teams compete in a scheduled 5k. Both races are the third competitions so far on the 2024 season for UM Cross Country.
Men's XC Highlights
Jacob Harned and Joe Stevens guided the Rams to a top-three placement as a team this past Friday, with both runners securing finishes inside the top 10. Harned paced Mobile with a seventh-place finish overall, recording a time of 27:14.4 in the process. He averaged 5:28 per mile. Meanwhile, Stevens came home 10th overall and managed a time of 27:25.1, while averaging 5:30 per mile. Preston Webb finished just outside the top 10 with a 12th-place finish, recording a time of 27:40.8. Friday's meet saw a total of 91 individual entrants compete.

Women's XC Highlights
In the women's 5k, senior Kayley Burgess led the way for the second time this season, producing a time of 21:33.6 in the process. Out of 92 total individual entrants in Friday's 5k, Burgess placed 22nd overall. She was followed closely by Claire Atkins, who came away with a 26th-place finish and a time of 21:43.8. Both Burgess and Atkins averaged under seven minutes per mile. Kaylea Holmes followed Burgess and Atkins with a 31st-place finish, recording a time of 22:14.3. Only six members of the women's team at Mobile competed at this year's Argonaut Invitational.

Next Up
The Rams are set to travel to Huntsville, Ala. for the next meet on the schedule, with Mobile competing in the UAH Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 12. Just two regular season meets remain for both teams at Mobile during the 2024 season.
