THE JUNGLE | MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Men's Soccer team cruised to another conference victory on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 28, defeating Middle Georgia State University 6-1 in front of the home faithful at the Jungle. Mobile is coming off a dominating 9-0 win over Brewton-Parker College (Ga.) just two days prior as the Rams have managed 15 total goals across the last two matches against conference opponents.
The Rams' SSAC record stays perfect at 4-0-0 following Saturday's win, while the overall record on the year improves to 8-1-1.
Joseph McMahon Continues Strong Season
In the 6-1 win against the Knights of Middle Georgia State, junior Joseph McMahon put together a highlight reel performance. McMahon opened the scoring in the 15th minute of the match with his ninth goal of the year following a great pass by Illyes El Yansil, later assisting on Mobile's second goal of the afternoon off the foot of Jeb Scarbrough in the 20th minute. Noah Miller then gave the Rams a 3-0 edge in the 28th minute before Middle Georgia State avoided the shutout with a goal in the 37th.
Right before halftime, McMahon was back in on the scoring action as he picked up his second assist on the day following Emilio Cazares' seventh goal of the season in the 42nd minute. Mobile went to the break with a 4-1 lead, with McMahon recording one goal and two assists in the process.
Later in the second half, McMahon notched his second score of the match in the 71st minute to put Mobile up, 5-1. McMahon's second goal of the day is his team-leading 10th goal of the year, placing him tied for second across the entire SSAC. Finally, Emilio Cazares notched his second goal of the evening in the 81st minute, with McMahon once again earning the assist. McMahon ended his Saturday afternoon with two goals and three assists, following his two-goal performance against Brewton-Parker on Thursday. On the week, McMahon has tallied four goals and three assists, collecting 11 points in the process. He will have a great shot in being named the SSAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.
