AUSTILL PHARR GYMNASIUM | MOBILE, Ala. - Coming off the first SSAC loss of the season one day prior, the University of Mobile Volleyball team responded with a 3-0 sweep over UT-Southern (Tenn.) on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 28 in Pharr Gymnasium, defeating the Firehawks in three sets for the second time during the season. Mobile fell to Blue Mountain Christian (Miss.) in four sets on Friday night, but improved the conference record on the year to 7-1 following Saturday's victory. Additionally, Mobile improves to the overall record to 18-4 through 22 matches played.
Rams Respond
Set one on Saturday stayed relatively close between the two teams, with Mobile eventually coming out on top, 25-23. The Rams put up 18 total kills in the first set alone, while UT-Southern managed 12 kills. In set two, Mobile followed with 15 kills, holding the Firehawks to just seven. Mobile won 25-15 in the second set.
Finally, Mobile took set three 25-17 to earn the sweep, adding 13 kills in the set. The Rams finished the day with 46 kills on 133 attempts, good for a .218 hitting percentage. Meanwhile, UT-Southern's offense continued to slip throughout the match, finishing with just a .105 hitting line and 27 kills.
Corrina Porch-Maxey led Mobile with 13 kills, with Dazsha Dean Middleton following with 11 kills. In two matches on the weekend, Middleton averaged 3.5 kills per set and tallied 25 kills off a .525 hitting percentage. For the Mobile setters, Tatum Beech produced 24 assists on Saturday, one day after reaching the 2,000-assist milestone on Friday night against Blue Mountain. Layton Adams followed with 13 assists, while adding 12 digs. Jaci Drinnon paced the defense with 24 digs as Aspen Adams tallied 14. The defense as a whole racked up 71 digs in the win.
Headed to Montgomery
Mobile is scheduled for a road conference match at Faulkner University (Ala.) for next action on the schedule, set to take place in Montgomery, Ala. on Friday evening, Oct. 4. Friday's match with Faulkner is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m. CT.
