MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The University of Mobile Men's and Women's Cross Country teams competed in the second meet of the 2024 season on Friday night, Sept. 6, competing in the annual Montevallo Falcon Classic in central Alabama.
Both teams at Mobile secured top-five finishes in the meet that featured over 13 different team entrants in each race. The men's team managed a third-place finish out of 15 programs in the first 8k ran this year, following only the University of Alabama - Huntsville and Wallace State (Ala.). Three Rams placed within the top 20 on the men's side, and the average time was recorded at 27:01.
In the women's 5k, Mobile's women's team earned a fourth-place finish in Friday's 5k out of 14 total team entrants, with two runners placing within the top 30. The team finished with a total time of 1:44:57, averaging 20:59.
Individual Results
In the men's race, Mobile was paced by Joey Jones, who notched a top-10 performance with an eighth-place finish. Jones averaged 5:19 on his mile, totaling a time of 26:26 in the 8k. Jacob Harned finished not far behind Jones, placing 10th overall with a time of 26:35. This year's Montevallo Falcon Classic saw 157 total individuals compete.
Preston Webb rounded out Mobile's top-20 finishers on Friday, placing 18th overall with a time of 26:58. From there, Mobile saw Joe Stevens placed 25th (27:14) and Henry Woodall placed 35th (27:54).
Other Mobile M XC Finishers
In the women's race, Claire Atkins led the Rams on Friday by finishing 25th overall out of 121 total entrants. Atkins recorded a time of 20:28, averaging 6:35 a mile. Kayley Burgess placed three spots behind Atkins in 28th, finishing with a time of 20:40.
Haley Jones and Trinity Page eventually followed Atkins and Burgess, with Jones finishing 31st (20:49) and Page placing 42nd (21:18). Kaylea Holmes rounded out Mobile's top five finishers in the women's race by recording a time of 21:40 in 45th place.

Florida Next on the Schedule
The Rams are scheduled to take a week off before returning to action at the 2024 Argonaut Invitational, hosted by the University of West Florida. The 2024 Argonaut Invite is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 20 in Pensacola, Fla.
