Mobile Sweeps Point on Saturday; Begins Conference Play with 2-0 Weekend

UM Volleyball Opens SSAC Action in Dominating Fashion

H. AUSTILL PHARR GYMNASIUM | MOBILE, Ala. - Just one day after a straight-set victory over Life University (Ga.) began the conference portion of the 2024 schedule, the University of Mobile Volleyball team kept momentum rolling on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 7 and notched the team's second consecutive sweep over a conference opponent. Mobile hosted Point University (Ga.) on Saturday in Pharr Gymnasium, eventually defeating the Skyhawks, 25-19, 25-8, 25-21.

The Rams' overall record improves to 12-3 on the season and advances the SSAC record to a conference-best 2-0.

Rams Quiet the Skyhawks

Like Mobile, Point opened the SSAC portion of the schedule with a victory the night prior to Saturday afternoon's matchup, but quickly found themselves in a battle with the red-hot Rams. After an early battle in the first set, Mobile managed a 5-0 run late and eventually won set one, 25-19. The Rams recorded 12 kills as a team to open the match, but hit just .121 with eight attack errors. For Point, the Skyhawks recorded just eight kills and seven errors across the match's first set.

In set two, Mobile dominated the Skyhawks and opened the set with a 17-2 run. Point had no answers for Mobile, while also committing 11 attack errors and just three kills. Mobile managed nine kills in the quick 25-8 set win, limiting errors to just three. In the third and final set of the match, Mobile and Point went back and forth for the early portion of set three, but Mobile's match-high 14 kills in the set handed the Skyhawks their first conference loss of the year.

Overall, the Rams slugged 35 kills on 103 attempts, finishing with a .175 hitting line. Aspen Adams paced all players in the match with 10 kills, finishing as the only player with double-digit kill totals. Adams added four digs and two service aces in the victory. Meanwhile, twin sister Layton Adams produced eight assists and eight digs, while Tatum Beech led Mobile with 14 assists and 10 digs.

Mobile's sweep over Point is the team's eighth sweep in 15 matches played during the 2024 season, with the Rams hitting .225 offensively and averaging over 15 digs per set in that span.

Return to Non-Conference Action

After two SSAC matches on the weekend, Mobile is set to return to non-conference play for a road match against Dillard (La.) on Tuesday, Sept. 10. Mobile's match on the road in New Orleans, La. next Tuesday begins a span of six-straight road contests, with the Rams returning home to Pharr Gymnasium on Sept. 27.

Tuesday's matchup is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. CT.
