Men's Soccer Draws 1-1 with Reigning National Champions

Mobile and Dalton State finish SSAC matchup with points being split

THE JUNGLE | MOBILE, Ala. - On Thursday evening, the Rams of Mobile faced off against the #10 team and reigning NAIA National Champions Dalton State College. The match was a close affair throughout the full 90 and there was a tension in the air that you could feel as you watched, stemming from the matches between these two teams during the 2024 campaign.

Mobile started out the match with intensity, pushing the Roadrunners back into their own half and creating a few opportunities to score the opener. That early pressure would pay off for Mobile as James Kwakye found the back of the net with a low-driven shot into the bottom left corner of the net, giving the Rams a lead that they would spend the next 70 minutes trying to add to. The remainder of the first half was back and forth with Mobile not having any more big chances of note.

Shortly after the start of the second half, the Roadrunners would win a penalty kick following a scramble for the ball inside the penalty area. Sam MacDonald stood tall in the Mobile net, ready to make a save if necessary, but the Roadrunner would place his effort wide right, allowing every Mobile fan in attendance a chance to breathe again. Mobile had several opportunities to punish the Roadrunners on the counter-attack but the final pass or clinical finish needed in front of goal was lacking in the opportunities. Those missed opportunities would come back to haunt the Rams as the Roadrunners would equalize in the 82nd minute. Neither side would be able to find a second goal that would give them all three points in the important SSAC match.

Up Next for the Rams

The Rams, 4-7-1 overall and 3-2-1 in conference play, will now turn their attention to their next home match on Saturday, October 18th, when they face the Running Eagles of Life University at 1pm CT.
