Women's Basketball Falls to LSU-Alexandria at Home

Rams slide to 1-3 early on the season with tough home loss

PHARR GYMNASIUM | MOBILE, Ala. - Playing in just the second home game of the season, the University of Mobile Women's Basketball team faced off against LSU-Alexandria for just the third time in program history. The Rams and the Generals had split the previous two meetings with LSU-Alexandria beating Mobile last season 71-68. Despite a solid first quarter, the Generals would pull away in the second and third quarters as the Rams would suffer their third loss in the opening four games as Mobile endures it's slowest start to a season under third year Head Coach Sydney Westry.

The first quarter saw Mobile take a few minutes to get things rolling as LSU-Alexandria held the lead for much of the first eight minutes. With time running down in the first quarter, the Rams would get things to connect from distance as Emilee Duet drained a 3-pointer to put the Rams up before Ally Blankinchip followed it up with a 3-pointer of her own to give the Rams a 6 point lead after the opening quarter.

Ally Blankinchip opened up the scoring for her side in the second quarter with another two 3-pointers as the visitors slowly chipped away at the lead. LSU-Alexandria would tie things up with 4:31 left in the quarter and while the Rams were able to take the lead back, it wouldn't last long as the away side went on a 14-6 run over the final four minutes to take a 47-42 lead into the halftime break.

The third quarter would see LSU-Alexandria build up it's lead as they outscored the Rams 27-15 to take a 74-57 lead into the fourth. With Mobile down by 17, they began to push for a comeback as the Rams started strong to cut the lead down by 4 in just the first minute. Despite this, the Generals fought back and built their lead back up to 21 which Mobile would find to be a mountain to tough to conquer. The Rams would go on to fall 94-78 and suffer their third straight loss.

Jada Johnson led the scoring for Mobile with 19 points while collecting 4 rebounds an 4 steals. Taylor Lee, Emilee Duet, and Ally Blankinchip all scored 10+ points in the loss. Deja Pryor would be the only starter to not score any points, but had a team high 6 assists to make up for it.
