AUSTILL PHARR GYMNASIUM | MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Men's Basketball team delivered a thrilling last-second victory over No. 11 Dalton State College (Ga.) in the SSAC Men's Basketball Game of the Week on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 1, securing a 72-70 win in Pharr Gymnasium for the Rams' seventh consecutive victory.
Mobile snapped Dalton State's impressive 12-game winning streak in the process after Saturday's win, while handing the Roadrunners their first SSAC loss of the season. Mobile improves to 16-4 on the year and 9-2 in the SSAC, sitting atop the current SSAC Men's Basketball West standings.
Rams Win Chippy Battle
In a game that featured intense back-and-forth action, the Rams held a slim 37-32 lead at halftime, shooting 43% in the first half with seven made three-pointers. Meanwhile Dalton State shot just 37% through the first 20 minutes, turning the ball over five times.
Dalton State mounted a strong second-half push, outscoring Mobile 38-35 in the final 20 minutes. However, it was a clutch final play that sealed the upset for Mobile in front of an electrified home crowd of 200 plus fans, with newcomer BJ Comer laying in the winning shot with just one second remaining.
Comer led the Rams with 18 points, hitting key shots throughout Saturday's contest. Colin Howells and Ezra McKenna both added 10 points, with Howells tallying three three-pointers, and McKenna controlling the paint with 12 rebounds to secure a double-double. From off the bench, Jarvis Moss tallied 14 points in 21 minutes of playing time as the second-year Ram continues to be a reliable bench option for head coach Darnell Archey.
Rams Host Thomas (Ga.) Next
Mobile is scheduled to return to action on Tuesday night, Feb. 4, hosting Thomas University in Pharr Gymnasium. Next Tuesday's game is scheduled to tip off at 6:30 p.m. CT as the Rams look to build off the biggest win of the season.
