H. AUSTILL PHARR GYMNASIUM | MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Women's Basketball team pulled off a thrilling comeback victory against Faulkner University (Ala.) on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 22, securing a 58-55 win in the regular season finale. Mobile ends the regular season with a 20-7 overall record, while putting together an 11-5 SSAC record to clinch the No. 3 seed in the upcoming SSAC Women's Basketball Championship Tournament.
Additionally, Saturday was Senior Day in Pharr Gymnasium as several seniors were honored pregame in front of one of the largest crowds this season.
How It Happened
Trailing for most of the game, the Rams entered the fourth quarter down 43-36 but erupted for 22 points in the final period to outlast the Eagles. Mobile's first lead came with just 16 seconds remaining in regulation when Braylee McMath knocked down a long-range jumper. From there, the Rams stole the win from the Eagles, snapping a three-game losing skid in the process.
Alanna Donaldson led the charge with a game-high 26 points, including a clutch 13-of-13 performance from the free-throw line, all coming in the second half. She spearheaded Mobile's fourth-quarter surge, converting seven free throws alone in the final frame. Miriam Oldacre also played a key role, scoring 17 points and grabbing five rebounds, while Braylee McMath added 10 points, knocking down two crucial three-pointers and two put-away free throws in the closing seconds.
As a team, the Rams only shot 33%, seeing just six players finish with points in the three-point win. Mobile's bench managed just two points. Defensively, the Rams held Faulkner to just 35% shooting, while forcing 17 turnovers. The Rams capitalized on the Faulkner turnovers, scoring 15 points off giveaways.
2025 SSAC Women's Basketball Championship Tournament
The seeds are set for the 2025 SSAC Women's Basketball Championship, presented by Newk's Eatery. The tournament runs Feb. 26 – March 1 at the Multiplex at Cramton Bowl in downtown Montgomery, Ala. William Carey (Miss.) claimed the SSAC Regular Season Championship and an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championship First & Second Round. Mobile will enter this year's tournament field as the No. 3 seed.
The Rams are scheduled for first action on Thursday night, Feb. 27, facing off with the Life University (Ga.) Running Eagles at 8:00 p.m. CT.
