Mobile Forces If Necessary Game Against Eastern Oregon

Rams keep the fight going in NAIA Softball Championship Opening Round as final World Series spot remains up for grabs

UM SOFTBALL FIELD | MOBILE, Ala. - With three days of the 2026 NAIA Softball Championship Opening Round completed in Mobile, Alabama, a champion is yet to be determined as the Rams have fought their way back from the losers bracket to force an second championship game against the Mountaineers of Eastern Oregon University. Day two of the tournament was originally scheduled to be played on Tuesday, but heavy rain throughout the late evening and throughout the night on Monday presented unplayable field condition on Tuesday, forcing all games on Tuesday's slate to be pushed back to Wednesday. The Rams would face Eastern Oregon in a heavily contested meeting that saw the #2 seeded Mountaineers run out as 4-2 winners over Mobile. With their back against the wall in the loser's bracket, Mobile would learn later on Wednesday evening that they would once again face the Warriors of Indiana Tech in their upcoming elimination game.

Thursday morning would eventually come and with it, the dawn of a rematch with Indiana Tech in an elimination game. This time around, Mobile would not pile on the runs quite like they had before, instead relying on just one person to carry them through to the next game. It wouldn't take long for Mobile's two runs to score as Diana Arcay would be hit by a pitch with a 2-2 count and 2 outs already on the board in the bottom of the 1st. With Arcay at first, Mobile's designated player Kaitylnn Robertson, who is better known by her teammates and coaches as K-Rob, would work a 3-1 count at the plate before latching on to a pitch and sending it flying out towards the hitting facility behind right-center field. That two run homer would be the difference at the end of 7 innings with Mobile riding a 2-0 win over the Warriors to set up a rematch against Eastern Oregon with just 30 minutes to get prepared.

The message from Head Coach Alison Sellers-Cook between the two games was simple, "Play for the person beside you. Play with heart and leave it all on the field." That simple message had to be on the mind of every Ram as Eastern Oregon took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Opportunities would come and go for the Rams throughout the first 5 innings as they would leave 5 runners on base in that time. Their fortunes would change in the top of the 6th as a pitching change would occur for Eastern Oregon. Daryelin Rivas singled down the right field line to start things off before advancing to second on a wild pitch. Diana Arcay would drive home Rivas with a double to left center, tying the game up at 1-1. Bella Bullington would come in to pinch run for Arcay at second before Kaitlynn Robertson grounded out to the short stop. It was at this point that things began to get exciting for the Rams. A driven ball past the third baseman by Gracie Mitchell would move Bullington to third while Mitchell would take second. Bullington would get caught in the midst of a throwdown at third that would eventually see her come home to score after an error while Mitchell took third. Lillie Lanham would work a five pitch walk, forcing the Mountaineers to change pitchers again. Miah Simmons would stun the opposition with an incredible hit to deep center field, scoring Mitchell and leaving runners at second and third. Bethany Dean would follow that up, reaching first on a fielder's choice before a heads up play saw her advance to second in the midst of Lillie Lanham scoring the Ram's 4th run. Not long after, Lucy Spisto would pop up with a 2 RBI single up the center to extend Mobile's lead to 6-1 and cap of a stunning 6 run inning. In the top of the 7th, the Rams would add an insurance run as pinch runner Reese Johnson would score after Miah Simmons was able to reach first on an error. Mobile would stand firm on defense in the bottom of the 7th as they held on to a 7-1 win, forcing another game to be played to decide the tournament champions.
