Rams Secure Wins in Conference Matches During Homecoming 2021

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MOBILE, Ala. - It was an extremely successful weekend for the University of Mobile 2021 Homecoming as both the men's soccer program and the women's program came away with conference wins on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 2 over Faulkner University. For the women's soccer team at Mobile, they secured their first win of the season. Meanwhile, the men's team at Mobile extended their winning streak to eight matches.

W SOC Earns First Win in Front of Homecoming Crowd

Mobile played host to the Faulkner Eagles on Saturday afternoon, squaring off against a team who has seen their fair share of struggles similar to Mobile during the 2021 season. Faulkner entered Saturday with a 2-7-1 overall record while Mobile still sat winless at 0-8-1. Both teams have battled injuries and a stiff 2021 schedule this year.

The Jungle was packed with fans on Saturday as Homecoming 2021 festivities occurred throughout yesterday and today. The energy fans brought to the Jungle seemed to encourage and motivate the Rams as Mobile managed to come away with their first win of the season, 4-1.

Faulkner hit the scoreboard first in just the fifth minute of the match. However, Mobile dominated from that point on, out-shooting Faulkner 30-11 and pushing across four unanswered goals.

Sophie Walsh got the scoring started for the Rams, coming in from off the bench a finishing a crossbar deflection for the goal. Anakah Madril took a shot that ricocheted off the crossbar to the feet of Walsh where she would then score the goal in the 27th minute. Later in the first half, Faulkner committed a costly foul outside the box with just eight seconds left in the half, allowing Mobile's Mia Mugford to score the go-ahead goal. Mugford placed the ball perfectly over the gloves of the Faulkner goalkeeper at the top of the net. Following Mugford's goal, confidence seemed to ooze from the Rams.

In the second half, Mobile wasted no time adding insurance goals. Mia Mugford scored her second goal of the match from outside of the box in the 52nd minute. Rachel Salyn was credited with the assist. Four minutes later in the 56th minute, Anakah Madril received a great pass from Elke Fernandez and scored Mobile's fourth goal. Madril made an impressive shot past two Faulkner defenders, including their keeper.

The score held up from there and Mobile earned their first win of the season in front of a very large crowd on Homecoming.

Despite Faulkner scoring in the first five minutes, the Eagles never seemed to threaten the Rams for the remainder of the match. Junior Leia Carter started her first match for Mobile as goalkeeper in her second season with the Rams. She recorded one save and earned the victory in her first start.

The Rams will celebrate the win this weekend before returning to action next week when they hit the road to Mount Vernon, Ga. and take on the Brewton-Parker Barons at 4:00 p.m. CT on Oct. 7.

No. 6 Mobile Cruises to Eighth-Straight Win

Following the University of Mobile Women's Soccer win earlier in the afternoon, the University of Mobile Men's Soccer team battled Faulkner in front of the large homecoming crowd and managed to shut the Eagles out, 4-0.

Alejo Binaghi scored Mobile's first goal of the match in the 18th minute. Jose Sanabria picked up the assist. Only five minutes later, Mobile scored their second goal off a brilliant corner kick from Sebastian Jorgge who found Angel Almiron. Almiron headed the ball in for the goal as Jorgge recorded the assist. The Rams went to halftime with the score in their favor, 2-0.

In the second half, Alejo Binaghi scored hit second goal of the match in the 59th minute. Emman Rahimi passed the ball to Binaghi all the way from midfield where Binaghi finished for the goal. Rahimi was credited with the phenomenal assist. For Binaghi, his latest goal was his third in two matches this week as he as a great shot to be named the SSAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the third time this year.

The Rams were not finished there, however, as Ronaldo Fortune scored in his second-straight match off a great cross from Salia Carr. Fortune's goal was recorded in the 82nd minute of the match as Carr was awarded the assist.

With Mobile's 4-0 win, they advance their overall season record to 9-1 while riding an eight-match win streak. Mobile is making a case to enter the NAIA Men's Soccer Top 25 Coaches' poll next week.

Mobile will host Pensacola Christian College for a non-conference matchup next Tuesday, Oct. 5 at 6:00 p.m. CT for their next scheduled match.
