RAMS END REGULAR SEASON WITH BIG WIN OVER SPRING HILL ON TUESDAY
MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Tennis teams ended their 2021 regular seasons on a high note Tuesday afternoon, Apr. 20 as both the men's and women's tennis teams at Mobile hosted and defeated crosstown rivals, Spring Hill College. UM Women's Tennis swept the Badgers, 7-0 and UM Men's Tennis won, 5-2 on Tuesday.
Women's Tennis Recap
On the women's side, Mobile dominated the badgers, earning a clean sweep, 7-0. In doubles action, Mobile won all three games played. Melody Holcomb (SO/Bixby, Okla.) and Paula John (JR/Herzogenaurach, Germany) won their match, 6-1. The teams of Maria Jose Reynaldo Toledo (JR/Trinidad, Bolivia) and Sofija Hrovat (JR/Hochstadt an der Aisch, Germany), and Emily John (JR/Herzogenaurach, Germany) and Claire Travis (SR/Saraland, Alabama) won both of their matches, 6-3.
Maria Jose Reynaldo Toledo later won her singles match, 6-1, 6-0. Melody Holcomb also had a nice day, winning her singles match, 6-1, 6-1. Andrea Sanchez (SO/Caceres, Spain) swept her opponent from Spring Hill in singles action, 6-0, 6-0.
Mobile's overall season record advanced to 6-6 on the season as the regular season comes to a close.
Men's Tennis Recap
In the men's match, the Rams outplayed the Badgers to earn the 5-2 win. Mobile took two of three matches in doubles action. The team of Matias Le Fort (SR/Santiago, Chile) and Andres Graterol (SR/Caracas, Venezuela ) earned a sweep in their doubles match, winning the match, 6-0. Boris Klingebiel (SR/Bensheim, Germany) and Kevin Andrusch (SR/Haiterbach, Germany) also won their doubles match, defeating Spring Hill's number one pair, 6-3.
In the singles matches, Klingebiel won in tiebreaker fashion, 6-2, 7-6 (7-3). Andrusch controlled his match by winning, 6-0, 6-3 and Matthew Brooks (FR/Daphne, Ala.) won his singles match, 6-3, 6-2.
The Rams rank no. 19 in the latest NAIA Men's Tennis Top 25 Coaches' poll as their overall season record advances to 8-5.
