MOBILE TENNIS CENTER | MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Men's and Women's Tennis teams returned to action on Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 26 at the Mobile Tennis Center for a doubleheader, facing non-divisional rival Spring Hill College (Ala.) in the process. The old rivals split Wednesday's two matches, with the women's team at Mobile earning a solid 6-1 victory over the Badgers. In the men's match, Spring Hill edged out Mobile 5-2 to snap a 23-match losing skid to the Rams dating back to the 2011 season.
Women's Match Highlights
UM Women's Tennis improves to 2-3 on the year following the 6-1 victory over the Badgers, winning the second consecutive match played after opening the year 0-3. The Rams set the tone early, sweeping the doubles competition to take the first point of the match. The duo of Karolina Mrowiecova and Lais Masuda made quick work of Spring Hill's top doubles pair with a 6-1 win. Katharina Bopst and Caroline Johnson followed with a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles, while Sara Parpinel and Camila Castro sealed the sweep with a hard-fought 7-5 victory from the third flight.
Mobile carried that momentum into singles play, winning five of the six matchups. Mrowiecova delivered a dominant performance at No. 1 singles, defeating Claire Bosman 6-1, 6-0. Bopst added a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 3, while Johnson secured a 7-5, 6-0 victory at No. 4. Rachel McMullan battled to a 6-2, 4-6, 10-7 three-set win at No. 5, and Masuda wrapped things up with a 6-4, 6-3 triumph at No. 6. The Badgers' lone point came at No. 2 singles, where the Badgers won, 6-1, 6-3.
Men's Match Recap
In the men's match, Mobile falls to 2-2 this season after the 5-2 defeat to Spring Hill. The Badgers won two of the three doubles match to secure one point, while winning four singles matches to earn the match win.
For Mobile, Sergio Ruiz Ramiro and Santiago Reina collected a 7-5 doubles win for the Rams, while Ruiz Ramiro and Callum Dickson earned victories from the third and fourth-seeded matches in singles play. Ruiz Ramiro won 7-6, 6-4, with Dickson winning in comeback fashion from No. 3 singles, 4-6, 7-5, 11-9.
What's Ahead
Mobile continues the non-conference doubleheader trend going next on the schedule, hosting Doane University (Neb.) on Tuesday, Mar. 11 at the Gerald Wallace Tennis Center on campus. Both teams will play two matches against Doane, scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. CT.
