No. 18 Mobile Scores Two Unanswered Goals to Defeat No. 16 Georgia Gwinnett

Rams Take Chippy Match at Home Over the Grizzlies

Box Score MOBILE, Ala. - On Saturday, Aug. 28, the No. 18 Mobile Rams hosted No. 16 Georgia Gwinnett College just 24 hours after facing the No. 5 Keiser Seahawks at home. The Rams fell to Keiser, 1-0 on Friday, Aug. 27, but bounced back and defeated the Grizzlies of Georgia Gwinnett on Saturday, 2-1. With Mobile's two matches against ranked opponents this weekend, the Rams have now faced three ranked teams in the NAIA Men's Soccer Top 25 to begin the 2021 season, going 2-1 in those three matches.

In Saturday's match, Mobile started several players who did not touch the field in Friday's loss, giving the Georgia Gwinnett coaching staff a different look. However, Georgia Gwinnett managed to hit the scoreboard first in the 29th minute and held the lead to halftime, 1-0.

In the second half, Mobile kept their same starters in the match for several minutes until the Mobile coaching staff put in several reserves. Most reserves that entered the match early in the second half started Friday's match against Keiser. Fresh legs and different looks offensively seemed to be the game plan from the start. That game plan was executed quickly as the Rams scored the equalizer in the 55th minute off a Lucas Ros chip shot over the Grizzlies' goalkeeper for his first goal of the season. Sebastian Jorgge was credited with the assist.

Later in the half, Mobile managed to draw up a beautiful play near the Georgia Gwinnett box off a throw-in. Sebastian Jorgge received the ball from the throw-in and passed the ball to Lucas Ros who lined it to Jose Sanabria. Sanabria finished with a strike in the 67th minute and scored his first goal of the season, which gave Mobile a 2-1 lead. Jorgge and Ros were credited with the double-assist. From there, Mobile held Georgia Gwinnett scoreless and came away with the victory, 2-1.

It was a chippy match on Saturday as a total of eight yellow cards were handed out. Georgia Gwinnett committed 26 fouls, while Mobile committed 12. Play was also stopped on two different occasions to separate opposing players. No ejections were made, however. Mobile out-shot the Grizzlies, 11-9 in the win and took a total of five corner kicks.

With Mobile's win over No. 16 Georgia Gwinnett on Saturday, and the Rams' win over No. 12 Lindsey Wilson to begin the season last week, it is expected to see Mobile jump in the next NAIA Men's Soccer Top 25 rankings with a 2-1 record over ranked opponents.

The Rams are scheduled to hit the road to Hattiesburg, Miss. for two neutral-site matches. The Rams will battle Williams Baptist College on Sept. 4 at 4:30 p.m. CT and later take on Lyon College on Sept. 6 at 2:00 p.m. CT. Both matches will be played on William Carey University's soccer field.
