Mobile Cruises Past William Carey in Hattiesburg Monday Evening

Underclassmen Shine as Mobile Earns 18-Point Victory over Crusaders

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The University of Mobile Women's Basketball team earned their 10th win of the season on Monday evening, Jan. 17 by defeating William Carey, 77-59. The Rams were led by underclassmen in the victory as 53 of Mobile's 77 points came from either freshmen or sophomores. Mobile improves their overall season record to 10-4 and 4-2 in conference play with Monday's win.

The Crusaders started the first quarter strong, holding a lead over Mobile for the first eight minutes of the game. However, Mobile managed an offensive surge late in the first quarter and took a nine-point advantage into the second quarter. From there, the Rams did not look back as Mobile kept a double-digit lead over William Carey for the majority of the game. At halftime, Mobile had the lead 42-31 and the Rams' largest deficit of the game sat at 30 points with just under eight minutes left in regulation.

True freshman Carlee Wyatt put together a career game, scoring a game-high and career-high 17 points in the win. Wyatt made five three-point shots in the win as Mobile Head Coach Erika Stuckman awarded Wyatt her first collegiate start on Monday. The Thorsby, Ala. native finished with 16 minutes of playing time.

Mobile newcomer and sophomore Miya Kimber also put together a nice game, scoring 15 points in the win and being one rebound shy of her second double-double in a row. Kimber added three assists and two steals to her numbers on Monday.

Joining Wyatt and Kimber with double-digit point totals was Erica Jones, Mary Denman Luker, and Breannah McCullah. Jones and Denman Luker both finished with 13 points each as McCullah finished with 11.

As a team, Mobile shot 48% from the floor and 71% from the free-throw line. The Rams recorded by far their best three-point percentage of the season, making 10 of 18 three-point attempts for a 55% three-point percentage. Additionally, Mobile scored 24 points off the bench and 17 points off 17 William Carey turnovers.

The Rams will look to build momentum as they are scheduled for a tough road test on Thursday, Jan. 20 against Talladega College in Talladega, Ala. The Tornadoes of Talladega are currently receiving votes for the NAIA Women's Basketball Top 25 Coaches' Poll.
