TALLADEGA, Ala. - On Thursday, Jan. 20, the University of Mobile Women's Basketball team traveled north to Talladega, Ala. for a conference game against the Talladega College Tornadoes. Talladega College entered Thursday's game with Mobile receiving votes for the NAIA Women's Basketball Top 25 Coaches' poll and defeated the Rams on Thursday evening, 95-87. Despite the loss, Thursday's game was the highest-scoring game for the Rams offensively so far this season. Mobile's overall record now sits at 10-5 and 4-3 in SSAC action.
Mobile saw five players finish with double-digit point totals in the defeat to Talladega with Mary Denman Luker scoring a team-high 14 points. Denman Luker added three assists and three rebounds to her totals as well as two steals on Thursday. Second-year freshman D'Mya Ferguson scored 13 points in the loss while recording a team-high seven rebounds and senior Kelsey Pinera finished with 12 points on Thursday, tying a season-high. Additionally, both MacKenzie White and Miya Kimber scored 10 points a piece in the loss Thursday evening.
As a team, Mobile shot 47% from the floor and recorded a 73% free-throw percentage. The Rams made four of 14 three-point attempts and scored 42 points in the paint. Talladega won the rebound battle 39-37 while both teams recorded 21 turnovers. Thursday's game featuring Mobile and Talladega was the second and final regular season meeting between the two programs as the Tornadoes earned the season sweep over the Rams. Mobile fell to Talladega by three points at home earlier in the season on Dec. 2.
The Rams will return to action on Thursday, Jan. 27 with a conference game against Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Next Thursday's game against the Tigers of Stillman is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. CT and is the first of two meetings between the two teams.
