MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Men's Basketball team, led by fourth-year head coach Darnell Archey, opened the 2022-23 season at home in Pharr Gymnasium on Saturday, Oct. 29 and came away with a big non-conference victory over Point University, 72-62. Mobile got revenge over the SkyHawks as Point managed a 76-72 victory over Mobile one year ago to begin the season. With the loss to the Rams on Saturday afternoon, Point falls to 0-2 on the season as Mobile opens the year at 1-0.
Rams Keep Steady Lead Over SkyHawks
Despite trailing in the first minute of the game, Mobile quickly took the lead over Point just two minutes into Saturday's ballgame and never looked back. The Rams' played excellent on the defensive side, forcing eight Point turnovers while recording six blocks and three steals in the first half alone. The SkyHawks shot just 25% from the floor and trailed the Rams by 13 at halftime. Mobile had the edge 35-22 at the break.
In the second half, Mobile's lead extended to 21 points with 12 minutes remaining. However, Point managed to make things interesting late, forcing several Mobile turnovers and capitalizing on their end of the floor. The SkyHawks cut the deficit to just five points with just under four minutes left. A well-used timeout by Mobile Head Coach Darnell Archey halted Point's momentum, however, and Mobile managed to score seven-straight points to extend their lead. The Rams eventually held off Point and win the season opener by 10 points.
