SHREVEPORT, La. - After opening the 2022-23 season with a road loss to LSU-Shreveport on Friday night, Oct. 28, the University of Mobile Women's Basketball team returned to the court in Shreveport, La. on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 29 with a neutral-court matchup against Philander Smith College. Despite leading through the first three quarters, Mobile eventually fell to the Panthers 63-60 as Philander Smith managed to score 18 points in the final 10 minutes to steal the win. Mobile falls to 0-2 to start the season.
Through the first two quarters, Mobile held a 35-27 lead at halftime over the Panthers. However, Philander Smith's halftime adjustments seemed to work as the Panthers out-scored Mobile 18-15 in the third quarter. In the fourth, the Rams were held to just 10 points as Philander Smith managed the comeback win.
Through the game, Mobile shot 49% from the floor, but made just seven of 17 free throw attempts. Additionally, the Rams took 12 three-point shots, making seven from deep. In just her second game played as a Ram, Fatoumata Sonko led the team with 12 points from off the bench, while tallying five rebounds. Both MacKenzie White and Erica Jones finished with 11 points each as Alesha Temple finished two points shy of a double-double. In her first season with Mobile, Temple led Mobile with 10 rebounds and recorded eight points.
Set for Home Opener
After the 0-2 start, Mobile is scheduled to play their first game in Pharr Gymnasium on Tuesday, Nov. 1 with a non-conference game against the College of Coastal Georgia. Next Tuesday's game is set for 5:30 p.m. CT.
