UM Women's Soccer Earns Fifth Win in a Row on Thursday Night

Rams Earn Fifth-Straight Victory with Thursday Win Over Brewton-Parker

MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Women's Soccer team continued their hot streak on Thursday, Oct. 6 with a 3-1 victory over Brewton-Parker College, advancing the overall season record the 8-2-2. Mobile remains undefeated in conference play at 4-0-0 following Thursday night's win over the Barons as the victory for Mobile extends the current win streak to five-straight matches.

Rams on a Roll

Mobile continued to play with confidence during the team's current winning streak, scoring the first goal of Thursday's match with Brewton-Parker in the very first minute. Carolina Martins Gomes scored the goal 58 seconds in to put the Rams up, 1-0. The goal for Martins Gomes is her sixth on the year. Mobile held a 1-0 lead to halftime.

Coming out of halftime, the Rams again got off to a hot start to start a half, with Sophie Roberts notching her team-leading 12th goal of the season in the 47th minute. Roberts finished after a great pass by Carolina Martins Gomes, who was credited with the assist, and currently sits third in the SSAC with her 12 goals scored.

Following the Rams' second goal of the match and multiple substitutions made by Mobile Head Coach Brian Person, Brewton-Parker began playing with more urgency as time continued to tick off the clock and eventually tallied their first goal in the 63rd minute to cut the deficit in half.

With the Rams up just one goal, Person began pushing his team to score an insurance goal late and saw his Rams do so in the 84th minute. Following a corner kick by Carolina Martins Gomes, Ashlyn Broussard's header went just wide. However, Raegan Latiolais was there to keep the ball in play and passed it over to Delainy Cunningham near the net, who recorded her first collegiate goal to put Mobile up, 3-1. From there, Mobile finished the match with the 3-1 win.

Inside the Box

Overall, Mobile out-shot Brewton-Parker 23-10 on Thursday, recording 13 shots-on-goal. Ebba Elweroth got the start in the net for Mobile, but an injury just 12 minutes in forced head coach Brian Person to pull Elweroth from the match and put in Juliana Gomez, who has platooned the goalkeeper position with Elweroth all season long. Both Gomez and Elweroth are at the top of the current SSAC leaders in save percentages.

Juliana Gomez recorded five big saves in Mobile's win, including saving a match-tying goal late in the second half minutes before Mobile's third goal in the 84th minute. Elweroth collected one save prior to her early exit.

Alumni Weekend on Tap

The Rams will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 8 with a conference match against Middle Georgia State. The SSAC has tabbed Saturday's bout with the Knights as the SSAC Women's Soccer Game of the Week, with kickoff being scheduled for 1:30 p.m. CT.

Additionally, the University of Mobile Soccer program will host UM Soccer Alumni Weekend from Oct. 7-8 as both the men's and women's soccer programs welcome back former Rams to the university.
