BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. - It was a rough day on the court for the UM Volleyball team on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 8 as the Rams fell in three sets to Blue Mountain College, 25-18, 25-20, 25-14. After two regular season meetings between Mobile and Blue Mountain, both teams managed 3-0 sweeps on their home court, with Mobile sweeping the Toppers back on Sept. 10. The loss on Saturday drops Mobile's overall record to 16-7 and 8-3 in conference play.
Saturday's match featuring Mobile and Blue Mountain was tabbed as the SSAC Volleyball Game of the Week, featuring the second and third-place teams in the current conference standings.
Jordan Wood led Mobile with six total kills, with Corrina Porch-Maxey and Abby Andrews following with five a piece. Aleah Kennedy was the lone Ram to record a hitting percentage above .150, tallying a .300 hitting mark with three kills. As a team, Mobile hit .063, committing 22 attack errors on 112 attempts. The Rams recorded just 29 kills.
Meanwhile, Blue Mountain managed a .230 team hitting percentage, recording 10 more kills as a team than Mobile and 11 fewer errors on 113 attack attempts. Both teams finished around the 50-digs mark, with Mobile finishing with 49 as a defensive unit.
Abby Andrews led the Rams with 14 digs, while Lexi Gillette and Tatum Beech tallied 12 each. Layton Adams finished with six digs and led Mobile with 14 assists. Beech finished with 10 assists on the afternoon.
Tough Road Matches on Horizon
Following the loss to a talented Blue Mountain team on Saturday, the Rams will play two more road matches next on the schedule, beginning on Friday, Oct. 14. Mobile will travel to Hattiesburg, Miss. for an evening match against conference rival William Carey at 6:00 p.m. CT before traveling to New Orleans, La. the following day for a 1:00 p.m. CT match against Loyola (La.).
Mobile swept Loyola at home earlier in the year, but fell in five sets to William Carey at home just last week. All three teams enter next weekend's action in the top four of the current SSAC Volleyball standings.
