MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Men's Basketball team traveled seven miles from their home facility for a non-divisional game against crosstown rival Spring Hill College on Saturday night, Nov. 12. Through three games on the 2022-23 season, the Rams have put together a 3-0 start, but suffered their first loss of the year to the Badgers on Saturday, who begin their 2022-23 season 1-0 after a 72-59 victory over Mobile. The loss drops Mobile's overall record to 3-1 ahead of conference play.

Mobile started the night solid in enemy territory, recording a shooting percentage north of 50% through the first half. Spring Hill shot just 38% from the floor in the first 20 minutes, as Mobile took a 31-30 lead to halftime. In the second half, Spring Hill made adjustments and managed to record a 46% shooting line from the floor, while Mobile shot 40%, scoring only 28 points in the final 20 minutes. Meanwhile, Spring Hill tallied a 42-point half to earn the comeback victory over the Rams.
Turnovers and consistency at the free throw line hurt Mobile's chances against the Badgers on Saturday night, with the Rams making 18 of 32 free throw attempts. For Spring Hill, the Badgers went 17-for-18 from the line, with their defense forcing a whopping 27 Mobile turnovers. Spring Hill tallied 34 points off Mobile giveaways.The Rams forced 20 Spring Hill giveaways, scoring only 14 points off those turnovers.
At the three-point line, Mobile made just three threes in the game, with Spring Hill making seven. Two of Mobile's three three-point field goals came from senior Logan Foutz, who notched seven points in the loss.
Sophomore DaMariee Jones led Mobile with 17 points in the defeat, recording five rebounds and a team-high three steals in the process. Trent Moye finished with 12 points and Ezra McKenna finished one point shy of a double-double with his team-leading 11 boards. Four of McKenna's 11 rebounds were on the offensive side.
SSAC Action Ahead
After enduring the first loss of the season, Mobile now looks ahead to conference play, set to begin on Thursday, Nov. 17 at Life University. The Rams are 5-8 all time against the Running Eagles of Life, but have notched two-straight wins. Thursday's meeting is the first time the two programs face one another in conference play as Life joined the SSAC this year.
The conference game featuring Mobile and Life is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT in Marietta, Ga.
