MARIETTA, Ga. - In the first SSAC contest of the 2022-23 season, the University of Mobile Men's Basketball team fell to the Life University Running Eagles 90-84 on Thursday night, Nov. 17. With the loss, the Rams have dropped each of the last two regular season games and have seen their overall record move to 3-2 on the season.
Comeback Falls Short in High-Scoring Matchup
Despite Life dropping 50 points through the first half against Mobile, the Rams managed to keep the game relatively close, trailing 50-33 at the break. Through the first 12 minutes, Life led Mobile 29-9, as it looked like a dominating night was in store for the Running Eagles. However, the Rams tallied 24 points in the final eight minutes of the half to trail Life by 17 at halftime.
In the second half, both teams' offenses continued to shine. Life scored 40 points against Mobile in the second half, while Mobile managed to score 51 points alone in the final 20 minutes. Life's big lead in the first half proved important as the Running Eagles escaped with a six-point victory. In the final two minutes, the Rams managed a 14-6 run against Life, but saw the comeback cut short by time. Both teams finished the night shooting around the 50% mark from the floor, with Mobile recording a 49% shooting percentage and Life finishing at 51.6%.
Individually, sophomore DaMariee Jones led Mobile with a season-high 19 points, bringing is season average to 14 points per game. Jones and Ezra McKenna led the Rams with six rebounds a piece against Life. McKenna notched 15 points in the loss, while Logan Foutz collected 17 points and five rebounds.
Mobile committed 20 turnovers in the conference opener, allowing Life to score 22 points off the Rams' giveaways. Mobile did manage to out-rebound the Running Eagles, 31-23.
Tough Test Up Next
Mobile will stay on the road this weekend in north Georgia for the next game on the 2022-23 schedule. The Rams will face conference foe Dalton State College in Dalton, Ga. on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 1:00 p.m. CT, and will look to snap the current nine-game losing streak Mobile is riding against the Roadrunners.
