COCHRAN, Ga. - Momentum has been on the side of the University of Mobile Men's Basketball team as of late as the Rams defeated Middle Georgia State 73-70 in Cochran, Ga. on Saturday, Feb. 12 for the team's fourth-straight victory. The win streak in the longest on the season for Mobile and it could not have happened at a better time heading towards the SSAC Men's Basketball Conference Tournament soon. Mobile's overall record improves to 14-15 and 8-9 in SSAC action following Saturday's win.
Senior Gary Jefferson continued his hot hand on the court as he led all scorers with 25 points in the win, tying a season-high. Jefferson also managed to tally seven rebounds on Saturday in 33 minutes of playing time while mixing in five assists, two steals and two blocks. Jefferson continues to lead Mobile in offense with a 15.1 average points per game total.
Joshua Williams scored 23 points in the win, making 12 of 13 free-throw attempts. As a team, Mobile made 22 of 27 free-throw attempts for a 81.5 free-throw percentage. Williams collected three rebounds and led the Rams with five assists on Saturday in 31 minutes on the court.
The Rams shot 37% from the floor in the win over Middle Georgia State, scoring 26 points in the paint and 14 off nine turnovers from the Knights. Middle Georgia State did manage to out-rebound Mobile 36-31 in the game, but could not slow down Mobile's offense as the Rams scored at least 35 points in both halves.
Mobile has just one regular season game left to be played on the 2021-22 season schedule, being a big one on the road against Faulkner University in Montgomery, Ala. Mobile fell to Faulkner by just one point at home earlier in the season as the Rams will look to continue their win streak with an upset win over the Eagles one game prior to postseason play. The game against Faulkner is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 19 at 2:00 p.m. CT.
