MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Men's Basketball team managed to defeat William Carey 77-68 on Saturday, Feb. 5, giving the Rams a series sweep over their conference rival. Mobile defeated the Crusaders 66-62 in Hattiesburg, Miss. back on Jan. 17. With the win on Saturday, Mobile's overall record improves to 11-15 on the year while the Rams' conference record moves to 5-9.
In the win, Mobile shot the ball well, recording a 55% shooting percentage and making 26 shots. The Rams tallied 13 made three-point shots while going 12-26 from the free-throw line, a number that Mobile Head Coach Darnell Archey wants his team to improve on.
Gary Jefferson led all scorers with 24 points in the victory and added one rebound, one assist, and two steals. Jefferson made a season-high five three-point shots and now leads Mobile in offense by averaging 14.4 points per game. He was the lone senior from the University of Mobile Men's Basketball program honored for Senior Day prior to the game as Jefferson's family was in attendance.
DaMariee Jones recorded his second-straight double-double on Saturday, finishing with 11 points and leading the Rams with 12 rebounds. The true freshman played 38 minutes and made five of nine shots. Ezra McKenna was one rebound shy of his own double-double as he recorded 10 points and nine boards.
Additionally, Logan Foutz knocked down four three-point shots on Saturday while leading Mobile with teammate Joshua Williams with three steals a piece. Foutz finished with 15 points and joined Jefferson, Jones, and McKenna as the four Rams with double-digit point totals.
The Rams are set the final home game of the season on Monday, Feb. 7 as Mobile hosts Brewton-Parker College at 7:00 p.m. CT in Pharr Gymnasium.
