Rams Continue to Shine; Remain Undefeated on 2022 Season Following 4-0 Weekend

Mobile Records 4-0 Weekend in Gulf Coast Invitational; Improves to 15-0 on the Year

GULF SHORES, Ala. - The University of Mobile Softball team, led by head coach Alison Sellers-Cook, continued their perfect start to the 2022 campaign, winning four more non-conference games this past weekend in the Gulf Coast Invitational Softball Tournament in Gulf Shores, Ala. The Rams played two games on Friday, Mar. 4 and two games on Saturday, Mar. 5. The four wins for the Rams adds to their perfect record this season as Mobile now has a 15-0 overall record with two more non-conference games on the schedule and conference play on the horizon.


Game One Notables (Fri. 3/4) - Mobile 12, Louisiana Christian 0 (5 Innings)
  • Mobile started the tournament out strong, securing a shutout run-rule victory over the Wildcats of Louisiana Christian on Friday.
  • Brinkley Goff pitched a five scoreless innings for Mobile, allowing just two hits while striking out four.
  • The reigning SSAC Softball Player of the Week Kaylee Pullin finished 3-for-4 at the dish with a team-high four RBI.
  • Seniors Jaden Morace and Courtney Ellzey finished with five RBI between the two, three for Morace and two for Ellzey.
  • Mobile out-hit the Wildcats, 13-2.

Game Two Notables (Fri. 3/4) - Mobile 4, Louisiana State University - Alexandria 3
  • Mobile secured a comeback win over LSU-A after scoring three runs in the final two innings.
  • The Rams out-hit LSU-A, 13-8.
  • Emily Butts earned the win and pitched a complete game for Mobile, allowing three runs off eight hits and striking out five.
  • Eila Infante finished 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and the go-ahead RBI single in the final inning.
  • Ashlyn Stewart and Kristen Black both recorded RBI singles in the sixth inning to tie the game.
  • Black, as well as Caitlin McRee, each recorded three hits.

Game Three Notables (Sat. 3/5) - Mobile 6, Avila (Mo.) 2
  • Mobile scored first six runs of the game.
  • Carleigh Bowden and Courtney Ellzey both doubled in the win while each recording two RBI.
  • Avery Johnston pitched a complete game, allowing five hits, two runs, and recording eight strikeouts. 
  • Rams out-hit Avila University, 10-5.

Game Four Notables (Sat. 3/5) - Mobile 4, Bethel (Tenn.) 0
  • Emily Butts pitched a complete game two-hitter against former conference foe Bethel Unviersity (Tenn.).
  • Butts allowed just two hits and struck out seven.
  • Eila Infante finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and a double.
  • Both Carleigh Bowden and Caitlin McRee finished with two hits a piece.
  • Mobile recorded eight hits as a team.


Mobile continues to roll on the season as the Rams will wrap up non-conference play on Tuesday, Mar. 8 with two games against two different opponents. Mobile is scheduled to face William Woods University at 3:00 p.m. CT at the UM Softball Field and will later play Thomas More University at 5:00 p.m. CT the same day. However, weather could force a schedule change to Tuesday's times as Mobile, Ala. is forecasted to receive several amounts of rain over the next several days.

Following Tuesday's action, Mobile will play their first conference games of the season this upcoming weekend when the Rams host Brewton-Parker College at the UM Softball Field on Friday, Mar. 11 for a doubleheader at 3:00 p.m. CT. The following day on Mar. 12, Mobile will host Middle Georgia State for a doubleheader at 12:00 p.m. CT.
