UM Women's Soccer Drops Pair of Conference Matches at Home

Rams Unable to Come Away with Win in Two SSAC Matches on the Weekend

THE JUNGLE SOCCER COMPLEX | MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Women's Soccer team competed in two home conference matches during the weekend, beginning on Thursday evening, Oct. 12 with a match against Dalton State College (Ga.). Two days later, Mobile hosted Life University (Ga.) for an afternoon start time on Saturday, Oct. 14, which happened to be during the first annual RamFest at the Jungle. In both matches played, the Rams were unable to hit the scoreboard and eventually fell in both contests.

With the two losses, Mobile's overall record drops to 6-5-4 this season, with the SSAC record moving to 3-3-2.

Match Recap: Dalton State 1, Mobile 0

On Thursday evening, Mobile hosted the Roadrunners of Dalton State College and fell, 1-0. Dalton State came out strong, scoring the first and eventual only goal of the match in just the third minute after a shot ricocheted off Mobile's starting goalkeeper Juliana Gomez and took a Roadrunner roll inside the net. From there, the match did not see another score despite the Rams winning the shot differential.

Overall, Mobile out-shot Dalton State 15-10 in the defeat, taking nine shots alone in the first half. Five of Mobile's 15 shots were on target, but Brooke Alvarez of Dalton State notched five saves in the shutout. Andi Hughes and Bailey Bronner both led Mobile in shots taken on Thursday with three shots a piece. Despite just the one goal allowed, Juliana Gomez ended the match with three saves.

Match Recap: Life 4, Mobile 0

During RamFest on Saturday afternoon, the Rams struggled to get any consistent offense going in the afternoon bout with Life University. The match remained scoreless through the first 24 minutes before former Ram Anakah Madril opened the scoring for the Running Eagles in the 25th minute. Madril played three seasons with Mobile before transferring to Life last year. She currently leads the Running Eagles in goals scored and assists this season.

Later in the first half, Madril would strike again, tallying her second goal of the match in the 35th minute. From there, the two teams went to halftime with Life leading the Rams. Trailing 2-0, Mobile began to feel pressure to get something working on the offensive side at the start of the second half.

In the final 45 minutes, Life added two insurance goals to put the match away. Life's third goal of the match came in the 67th minute, followed by the final score on Saturday in the 75th minute. The match went final with a 4-0 loss for the Rams.

Life out-shot Mobile 19-8 on Saturday. Mobile again managed five shots-on-goal in the losing effort, but could not get a shot past Life goalkeeper Grace Staunton. Raegan Latiolais and Sophie Roberts both took two shots each in the match, which led the Rams.

Tough Matchups Continue for Mobile

The Rams are set to return to action on the road next Saturday, Oct. 21 with a matchup against conference rival William Carey University (Miss.). Mobile will look for a huge upset as the Crusaders currently rank No. 1 in the NAIA Division with an undefeated record. Next Saturday's match is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. CT.
