MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - The University of Mobile Volleyball team returned to the road over the weekend for two conference matches beginning on Friday, Oct. 6. Mobile faced Middle Georgia State in Macon, Ga. on Friday evening, while battling Brewton-Parker College (Ga.) in Mount Vernon, Ga. the following afternoon. In both matches played, the Rams dominated the opposition, earning straight-set victories.
Mobile's overall record on the season improves to 13-6 following the successful weekend, with the SSAC record advancing to 6-3.
Friday Match Recap: Mobile 3, Middle Georgia St. 0
On Friday night, the Rams opened the match with a 25-20 set one victory over the Knights of Middle Georgia St., totaling 11 kills as a team to begin play. Mobile's offense picked up one set later as the Rams came away with 17 total kills across set two in line for the 25-15 win. In the third and final set, Mobile managed 14 kills and an attack percentage right at .300 for the most consistent offensive set of the match, leading the Rams to the match win. Mobile took the third set, 25-13.
Overall, Mobile finished Friday's battle with an attack percentage at .195, while Middle Georgia State hit in the negatives at -.016. The Rams totaled 118 total attacks, committing 19 errors, with the Knights finishing with 26 attack errors on 126 attempts.
Individually, Corrina Porch-Maxey and Jordan Wood led Mobile on the offensive side, with Porch-Maxey recording 11 kills and Wood finishing with 10. Both players hit above .250 in Friday's win. Wood eventually led all players with a .471 hitting line.
Defensively, three players for Mobile finished with double-digit dig totals. Aspen Adams led the team with 14 digs, while Lexi Gillette tallied 12 and Layton Adams totaled 10. Layton Adams went on to lead the team with 19 assists and two service aces in the victory.
Saturday Recap: Mobile 3, Brewton-Parker 0
Just over 12 hours following Mobile's victory over Middle Georgia State, the Rams returned to the court for a match against the Brewton-Parker Barons and cruised to another sweep. Mobile's offense greatly improved on Saturday as the team hit north of .300 through the three sets played. The Rams defeated the Barons, 25-15, 25-14, 25-18 to wrap up the weekend.
On 93 total attack attempts, Mobile tallied 40 kills and committed just 11 errors. On the opposite side, offense was hard to come by against the Mobile defense as Brewton-Parker only recorded 23 kills on 91 attempts. Mobile finished the win with a .312 hitting percentage and the Barons hit just .077.
Junior Kendel Lee Frazer went off on the offensive side against the Barons, hitting .429 and tallying a match-high 14 kills. Frazer finished two kills shy of matching her career-high. Jordan Wood finished behind Frazer with seven kills, hitting .267, and Brinkley Hearn notched six kills off a .525 hitting percentage.
Tatum Beech led the Rams in the assist category with 18 assists, followed by Layton Adams who tallied 16. Additionally, Beech ended Saturday with three service aces, joined by Aspen Adams with three aces herself. Jenna Schuliger led Mobile with five service aces on Saturday. Defensively, Lexi Gillette was the only Ram to collect double-digit dig totals with 12 digs in the win.
Mobile Battles Faulkner Next
Following this weekend's road trip to Georgia, Mobile is set to return home to Pharr Gymnasium for a conference match against the Faulkner (Ala.) Eagles on Thursday evening, Oct. 12. Thursday's match is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. CT.
