University of Mobile Men's Soccer to Play for SSAC Championship on Friday Following Semifinal Victory

Rams Set to Face Rival William Carey in Conference Title Match Friday Night

EMORY FOLMAR SOCCER COMPLEX | MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Following a 1-0 semifinal victory over Thomas University (Ga.) on Wednesday evening, Nov. 8, the University of Mobile Men's Soccer team will officially face conference rival William Carey (Miss.) in the 2023 SSAC Men's Soccer Championship match on Friday night, Nov. 10.

The Rams, who claimed this year's regular season championship and top seed in the conference tournament, knocked off the eighth-seeded Toppers of Blue Mountain (Miss.) to open the postseason at home last week, advancing to Montgomery, Ala. for the semifinals on Wednesday. In Wednesday's semis against the Thomas Night Hawks, who are this year's No. 4 seed, Mobile produced a late score for the match's lone goal to seal the victory and advance to the title match. Jman Dieng came up with the game-winner for Mobile in the 84th minute, with Joaquin Rivera earning the assist.

Mobile out-shot Thomas 12-6, but held only a 4-3 edge in shots on frame. Thomas managed a 5-3 edge over Mobile in corner kick opportunities. For senior goalkeeper Ty Turner, the shutout on Wednesday is his 11th this season for this year's SSAC Golden Gloves Award winner. Turner delivered three saves in the clean sheet victory for the Rams.

William Carey, the No. 3 seed, put together a semifinal win over the second-seeded Dalton State (Ga.) Roadrunners on Wednesday night, coming away with a 2-1 victory. The teams battled to a scoreless tie for the bulk of the opening half until William Carey's Jack Greenwood scored in the 43rd minute to give the Crusaders the lead for good. Carey's Jamie Wynne scored the game-winning goal in the 54th minute, with William Carey edging out Dalton State 10-9 on shots, but held a 7-2 edge in shots on goal.

William Carey will be looking for revenge over Mobile as the Rams claimed the regular season title this year on the Crusaders' home field following a 1-0 victory during the regular season. Mobile will be looking for the team's first SSAC Tournament Championship since the 2017 season under head coach and four-time SSAC Men's Soccer Coach of the Year, Daniel Whelan.

Friday's match is scheduled to kick off at 7:00 p.m. CT at the Emory Folmar Soccer Complex in east Montgomery, Ala., and will be broadcasted live HERE.
