AUSTILL PHARR GYMNASIUM | MOBILE, Ala. - Coming off the first loss of the season earlier in the week, the University of Mobile Women's Basketball team returned to action on Thursday evening, Nov. 16 with the first conference game of the 2023-24 season. The Rams hosted Thomas University (Ga.) to begin SSAC play, eventually defeating the Night Hawks, 86-67. The victory improves the overall record to 5-1, while opening the conference portion of the schedule at 1-0.
Game Recap: Mobile Bounces Back
After allowing a second-half comeback against Tuskegee University this past Monday, Mobile responded well in Thursday's game against Thomas. The Rams opened the contest with a 20-7 run through the first quarter, later adding 28 points in the second. Meanwhile, Thomas could only score 24 points in the first half alone as Mobile took a 48-24 lead to the break. The Rams made 17 shots from the field through the first 20 minutes.
In the second half, both teams put up 18 points each across the third quarter, with Mobile running away with the game in the fourth. Despite allowing Thomas 25 points in the final 10 minutes of the game, Mobile scored 20 points to seal the 19-point win. Throughout all four quarters, Mobile shot 47% from the floor, making 21 of 29 free throw attempts. For Thomas, the Night Hawks made 17 free throws and shot 41%.
Miya Kimber put together her best game of the season this year for Mobile, tallying a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Kimber went 4-for-8 from the field and was a perfect 10-for-10 at the free throw line. Erica Jones also scored 18 points in Thursday's victory, adding six rebounds. Both Kimber and Jones were followed by Alanna Donaldson with 12 points and MacKenzie White who scored 10 points from off the bench.
Overall, nine players on the Mobile roster recorded points in Thursday's victory.
Back to Work on Saturday
The conference portion of the schedule is off and running as Mobile is set for another home conference game on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 18. Mobile will host Faulkner University (Ala.) on Saturday, scheduled to tip off at 12:00 p.m. CT.
