UM Women's Basketball Goes 2-0 in SSAC v. SUN Conference Challenge

Rams Remain Unbeaten Following Annual SSAC v. SUN Conference Tournament in Montgomery

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The University of Mobile Women's Basketball team improved to 3-0 on the young 2023-24 season on Friday afternoon, Nov. 3, defeating Webber International University (Fla.) to wrap up play in the annual SSAC v. SUN Conference Challenge at the Multiplex at Cramton Bowl in Montgomery, Ala. One day prior, Mobile began the annual tournament with a morning matchup against Keiser University (Fla.), and knocked off the Seahawks, 88-69. On Saturday, Mobile defeated Webber International 94-66 to advance to 3-0 under first-year head coach Sydney Westry.

Thursday Games Notes: Mobile v. Keiser - 88-69
  • Mobile shot 42% from the floor as a team against Keiser, scoring 23 points or better in each of the final three quarters after trailing 19-14 in the first.
  • Newcomer Braylee McMath led all players with 22 points for the Rams, adding five rebounds and four assists.
  • Reigning SSAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week Erica Jones totaled 20 points in the win, collecting nine rebounds.
  • Keiser only shot 35% in Thursday's game, but made 23 of 28 free throw attempts. Mobile finished 8-for-13 at the free throw line.
  • The Seahawks were led by three players who tallied 13 points each in the loss. 
  • Keiser won the rebound battle with 44 boards, while Mobile grabbed 41 rebounds. Miya Kimber (Mobile) and Elise Ellison (Keiser) led all players with 12 rebounds each.
  • The win for Mobile over Keiser evens to all-time series at 1-1.
Friday Game Notes: Mobile v. Webber International - 94-66
  • Erica Jones recorded a career-high 31 points in Mobile's win over Webber International, putting her in line for a potential second-straight conference player of the week award. Jones made 10 of 17 shots from the floor, finishing 8-for-10 at the free throw line.
  • Jones added seven rebounds and three steals, while Alanna Donaldson tallied a season-high 18 points, three assists, and three steals for Mobile.
  • The Rams shot 45% from the floor on Friday, while Webber International shot 44%. 
  • Mobile out-rebounded the Warriors 52-32, with all 11 Rams who touched the court collecting at least one rebound.
  • The Rams made 20 of 28 free throw attempts (71%) as WIU made 15 of 21 free throws (71%).
  • Mobile starts 3-0 for the first time since the 2021-22 season.

Next on the Schedule

Following an exhibition game against the University of South Alabama on Monday, Nov. 6, Mobile's next regular season game is set for Wednesday, Nov. 8 against Birmingham Southern University (Ala.) in Birmingham, Ala. Next Wednesday's game is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. CT, with the game being the first meeting between the two teams since the 2012-13 campaign.
